Exclamation 1986 C10 Voltmeter

I've done quite a bit of searching, and even read some other posts on the subject, but for the life of me I can not seem to find out why my Voltmeter gauge is not working. The gauge itself is fine, I've already tested it, but I'm not quite sure what to try next to get it working.

Any help would be appreciated.

PS; instead of making a new thread, does anyone know where I can get the proper temp sending unit? I've heard that most of them put out the wrong temperature unless you get the right one.

Re: 1986 C10 Voltmeter

The voltmeter uses the 39 pink/black circuit for system voltage sensing. The pink/black group is fed by the 20 amp Gauge/Idle fuse powers a lot of things (including the other gauges). So if everything else on that circuit is working okay, the problem is specific to the voltmeter.

The voltmeter also shares a pin with the dash illumination ground circuit - so if you have dash lights and the rest of the gauges are working, the problem most likely exists within the cluster.

Check that the clips that the gauge stabs into are tight to the studs. On the back of the bucket, make sure that there is a good clean/tight connection between the clips and the copper conductors on the PC board.

The coolant sender for any SBC has had the same resistance range since around the mid-seventies - it's almost hard to get the wrong one. One thing to watch out for is the type of terminal connector. You probably are set up for the collar-button type where the harness connector is perpendicular to the axis of the sender:

It's no big deal if you can't find that type though, just change the connector as necessary.

This would be the one. Bought one myself and it reads the temp just fine

Thanks! I'll go outside and try taking a look tomorrow. If worse comes to worse and I have to run my own wiring to the gauge, is it okay to run it to any 12v ignition wire?
