Question brand new HEI chevy distributor $42.95???

I need some help-I just built my 454 for the 69 and I still am running the pionts set-up out of the small block 350. I have seen these HEI distributors on ebay and this past weekend I saw them at the Pomona swap meet anywhere from 50 to 80 bucks. They look great and I can't see anything wrong with them.........but I can't get over the price! These are no-name china made i'm sure ...has anyone used one of these or have knowledge as to if they are worth a damn?...

Re: brand new HEI chevy distributor $42.95???

i would spend the extra money for a descent reman'd delco unit myself, i mean most people are using 30 year units now and they work fine, dont trust anything that is sold for half price

Re: brand new HEI chevy distributor $42.95???

most people are getting them from Skip White on ebay. There was another thread on this awhile back and no one had complaints about the aftermarket units. I have one and will go in next weekend.

I called skip white directly and got one. Live Rat installed it before I left Monroe, and it's needed nothing since. Granted, that was only 6 months ago or so...

Re: brand new HEI chevy distributor $42.95???

Dont see how they can make them that cheap! I just bought a Borg Warner cap and rotor today and it was 30 bucks, going to the Chevy dealership tomorrow and get a Delco module and I imagine it will be at least 40.00

Here a link to his HEIs http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CHEVY...spagenameZWDVW

Re: brand new HEI chevy distributor $42.95???

I have had two of these. One in my old cutlass (11.5 second car, 11:1 compression) and one in my '70 pickup (402). The module went out in the cutlass after 3 months of run time, but nothing else happened to it (it is also important to mention the car sat for almost a year prior). The one in my truck has lasted 6 months so far, without a problem. I would have liked to purchase a "top name" brand, but like most of us, money is an issue. However, after owning these I would not buy anything else as far as hei distributors are concerned. I have been buying more and more "store name" parts and have been finding out they are just as good as name brand stuff. I have also been buying lots of Summit Racing parts and have found that some of them even have name brand names stamped on them. I was really leary about buying the cheaper stuff and still am, but I do my research and check with other people to see how parts have performed with them. Hope this helps.

Re: brand new HEI chevy distributor $42.95???

Name brand crap is China made too. I only buy the more expensive anything if it is a differnce in US made and not otherwise why pay for MSD, Holley, etc, etc instead of Summit or no name at all?? Summit contracts name brand manufactures to build them stuff and put Summit on it to save $$$ (because Summit buy 10 million or so {a guess, mind you,} as opposed to one at a time) I will buy several from Skip White, because as said above a flippin' MSD cap cost what a new billet distributor costs!!

Re: brand new HEI chevy distributor $42.95???

Just bought an HEI, plug wires and mini-starter from skipwhite and they gave me 5%-off plus half-price shipping for calling the order in. His phone number is on his ebay listings.

Just the distributer and a new set of plug wires. Wiring is easy, it's in the FAQ's. I have a Skip White on my '67 and it works as good as the $200 one I have on my '70.

Re: brand new HEI chevy distributor $42.95???

I got mu pro comp dist locally, for 85. I've since had to replace the vacuum advance, but that was cheap and easy enough.

I have bought a 100amp alt, and alum water pump from skip white myself.

All items have worked just fine for over a year now.
