What to use to remove the adhesive left from body side mouldings?

I got two strips up and down the side from removing the body side moulding - other than a heat gun and a finger nail any other ideas?

Hopefully available in Canada....

sometimes glass cleaner but I also know there is a tip for a grinder that looks like a giant eraser you can use

Laquer thinner, "Super Solv RS-615," or an eraser attachment for a grinder should all work. I've had good luck with all of them.

Thanks fellas I'll look into those however, I should have indicated that a good portion of the adhesive is still there - as in, it has some height to it. I reckon about mil or two thick in places.

So it's not just the residue...

Hopefully you don't find any rust under it like I did, took the mouldings off only to find pitting on my doors I just got, I just sander it all off

Is the adhesive still pliable/rubbery? Or is it hard as a rock? That would change the method I'd use.

Still kinda rubbery, but not strong enough to pick at one end and gently pull a line of it off.

frog210: rust was in some places, not very many. Only surface rust at that.

Except for the shot rear quarter which is getting replaced anyways.

I'm with ElCracho on this one, judging by the texture of it. I use them every day and they work great if the material isn't rock hard. It will peel the adhesive off, not harm the paint, and save you lots of time and elbow grease. It's just a good tool to have around in general.

Oops! I was talking about the rubber wheel that goes on the end of a grinder. You can get them just about anywhere for well under $20.

When I worked in the car dealerships we used paint thinner or carb cleaner to remove the residue from old dealer plaques, the decal that dealerships put on a car trunks lid.

I always use 3m general purpose adhesive remover and/or eraser wheel followed with meguires cleaner wax. I like the 3m stuff, they made the adhesive so who better to make a product to remove it?

I can tell you googone will ruin ur.paint even powder coat I've faded both with that crap. I've had my best luck with WD-40 believe it or not

3m Stripe off wheel, we use it every day in the shop to remove stripe, decals and double sided tape left behind when we remove side moldings and trim.

They work good and we've yet to have them damage paint, at least paint that was not already damaged. Make sure you wear eye protection, that stuff flies all over the place.

First hit it with 3M Pinstripe Remover and then 3M Adhesive Remover. I used this method to remove the pinstripe and emblems from my Charger R/T
















I washed it, hit it with a claybar, wax it all up and then had a photo shoot the next day....

The 3m woodgrain and stripe remover didn't work worth a damn, maybe because this stripe has been on there since 86.

The eraser wheel however rocks. I'll be keepin a few extra in the garage for future projects. Thnx fellas!

Those wheels were a godsend to us when they came out. We were doing a lot of GM warranty paints and it never failed we'd get a flippin' conversion van in with vinyl stripes top to bottom. Took forever peeling them off with a razor blade and using solvent to clean the glue up. With those wheels 2 of us could demolish a van loaded with stripes in 1/2 a day, compared to 3 days the old way.

Yep, these are the ticket right here. I believe they are officially marketed by 3M as the "Stripe Off Wheel" be sure to get the one that comes with the arbor to chuck in your drill, they sell "refills" that are just the wheel with no arbor. They do wear down as you use it, but mine has lasted through removing pin stripes and molding from 4 trucks now including a 4 door longbed and a Mazda pickup with those 8" wide 80s graphics down the entire length of the truck. They are meant for pinstripes and graphics, but make quick work of leftover molding adhesive without damaging your paint.
