New Woodgrain Applique Over Old Applique

Anyone think that I could be lazy and just place the new woodgrain sticker applique I got for the lower trim over the old stuff? Although I've repainted the truck, I've kept all the old outer trim and hardware like the bumpers and handles and it's kind of beat up. I want to replace the lower woodgrain applique because several of the panels have completely fallen off, but I'm also not chasing perfection on this job since the trim itself is not the best.

Just wondering if anyone thinks it would hold up for a few years if I just place it over the old stuff that's still on there. Not sure how the adhesive would work on the surface of the old sticker vs the aluminum underneath.

It looks like the clearcoat or clear plastic outer coating of the old woodgrain sticker comes off easily enough, but that under part that has the actual woodgrain look seems like it will be a bear to get off all the way.
