Anyone know the trick to disconnecting the e-brack cable on these trucks. My experience w/the pre-75's is a simple bracket/retainer. My dually has some sort of clip/retainer that is not much larger than the cable. It had enough gap to fit an awl in there (I though maybe it pops off) but I felt like I was going to break the awl off trying to do so.

What's the trick before I tear something up?

Anybody? Does this piece (#5 parking brake cable pic) actually pry off & is re-useable or is it usually destroyed during the removal process?

I used a pair of channel-locks. You have to catch the pellet on the cable through the slot and squeeze it to the center of the sleeve. Then it will come out through the rectangular opening. Hope this makes sense, Buddy

Make sure parking brake pedal is all the way up. Then pull the cable at #5 sideways. This pulls the cable out of the sheath. Put a pair of vise grips on the cable right at the end of the sheath. This will give you room to work. Being careful, use a small screwdriver to lift the little tab that locks the cable end in. Then slide the cable out. I had to do this on one of my trucks when the adjustment nut rusted to the threaded rod.

Ok.... I tried w/an awl but felt like the awl was going to break before the clip came apart from the cable ends. The awls leverage ability is obviously not much (because of it's length/diameter), but something longer/thicker didn't seem to fit.

I guess I'll spray everything down & try again now that I know the clips are available.

Worse comes to worse, Rockauto has them for less than $2 each.

That was my next place to look. Went by OReillys & they gave me that weird look. I know part of the problem was I don't know the correct GM term for that clip (I was explaining to them I needed an e-brake cable retaining clip so they were telling me they're in the HELP section).
