Re: Vortec 454

My 88 has normal old school peanut port heads. Steel valve covers even.

Oval port Vortec heads began in 1996.

Re: Vortec 454

I want to say there is something different about gen V 88-95 heads and intakes cause i know you can put a GEN IV intake on a Gen VI (Vortec) but not on a gen V for some reason. Might be able to find an aftermarke TBI Gen VI intake though.

Re: Vortec 454

87-91 TBI 454 is carb manifold with adapter plate, is quadrajet flange to tbi flange adapter. Sooooo, technically a newer quadrajet flanged manifold for Vortec heads would accept the tbi w/adapter. Or a square bore manifold with a different TBI adapter plate.

The throttle body on this engine is from a '90 C3500 cab-&-chassis GMT-400, the engine is a Gen VI factory replacement upgraded with Vortec heads, Mercruiser cam, and Edelbrock performer intake.

Gen V coolant passages are different. VI went back to IV style so IV stuff fits VI and vice-a-versa but V is oddball critter.
