Door striker bolt?

I have a 78 Silverado here I want to change door striker bolt but am afraid to pull bolt because it feels as though the inner workings will just fall down inside cab panel(really loose sounding and feeling). I changed the other side and there was no movement what so ever. I've read here the inner workings will not fall but I also read here where they do fall. Any input on this matter would greatly be appreciated. Thanks...

Re: Door striker bolt?

If you have back speakers you are fine. If it falls take the speaker out and the workings would have fallen right there. Both mine fell when i put in new striker covers.

Re: Door striker bolt?

they are held in with either tack welds or little tabs,, the other poster is right tho you can pop out the speaker and get in there if you need to If you have a non tilt seat you may have to pull that but its not the end of the world if the retainer plate falls

Re: Door striker bolt?

I got it. Just a little cardboard panel behind seat was covering it. Thanks....
