NAPA sells reman`d booster and mastercylinder kit for $150+/-?That`s the way to go.I just got a kit for my GMC.

how hard should the pedal be in gear stopped? Mine takes quite a bit of leg pressure to keep it from creeping but hardly no pressure in neutral. Good brakes otherwise just a lot of effort

Try a booster for a C-30, or one ton truck. I've heard that they will bolt in and require less effort because they are dual diaphram. Never tried it myself, but plan to.

can anyone verify this for sure? i'd like to zip to town and pick one up. my brake pedal is hard as a rock! it (the truck) likes to try to creep while stopped (in gear.)

i would suppose this would fix the problem?

is it an auto trans? if it is sounds like the convertor is locked the release below a certan rpm. check to make sure you are getting good vacumm

1) Does anyone have a NAPA part number and a list of what is included?

2) Is this for drum/drum, drum/disc or disc/disc applications?

3) What diameter booster is it? 10"? 12"?

stanly, it sounds to me like you booster is dead. Unplug the vacume line, and plug it off with a big bolt, then fire it up and see if it is the same. If the pedal feels the same, head on over to napa and get another booster.


You may want to price a booster alone. My NAPA giuy just quoted me 100 bucks for the booster alone (one ton, drum/drum) and a little less for drum/disk... and we all know a master cylinder is only 17 or so bucks at any chain store.

I have tryed both single and dual and a world of difference like night and day I have drums and am not even considering disk now.

Typically I like NAPA parts BUT I purchased a rebuilt booster from them and it failed after about 18 months. I won't ever buy another one from them.

I had a creeping problem on my`71 CustomCamper/20.I suspected vacuum.I rebuilt the front brakes:rotors/calipers and it went away.It could be a number of things.I`d check the vacuum as explained by LonghornMan,first.I just knew I had a frozen caliper problem after lending the truck to in-laws and getting it back with black aluminum slots.
By preference,I don`t buy brake parts from any place lower than NAPA.I prefer the GM dealer above all.With some things,price-shopping is not the issue.

So will any booster bracket work? I need to convert to power. I know I will need the push rod that goes from the pedel to the booster. And maybe a master cyclinder made for power brakes. Anything else?

After I get a motor back in the '70 GMC, it may be asked to haul better than a ton of water. I really need power brakes.

Well, i just ordered a booster and master cyl from advanced auto. i called around to all the chain parts stores in town, and no one keeps them in stock, so i visited everyone's website, and ordered them. the brand is Cardone, and it seemed everyone's part was this same manf. everyone's prices were pretty similar, but advanced had free shipping. not bad for heavy parts...should be in around next thurs, so we'll see. hopefully it's the right part. i ordered the one for a '72 c30, and i will be putting it on my c10.

alright, so since we're on the topic of brakes...
i've been lookin for a definitive answer on this but couldn't really find one...i have power brakes now, but if i wanted to put a new booster on, could i use the one for a 1 ton truck on my 1/2 ton cst10?

My booster just went out. I went to Switzerland last weekend and over the border (Simplon Pass) noticed a loud vacuum leak. I stopped and could hear the leak at the booster. Also "whooshed" when I applied the brakes. Pedal seemes OK and got hard when I plugged the vacuum line. Brakes worked OK with line hooked up but you for sure hear the leak in there.

I recently replaced a bad M/C and there was a lot of brake fluid in the booster so I figure it ate the diaphragm. I bought from Rockauto and a Delco style Cardone was $86.79.

Wish I'd known about the C30 booster. Think it makes that big of a difference on a C10 with front discs?

WELL, AS I DIG DEEPER, I'VE FOUND THIS INFO IN MY gm rESTORATION PACKET, LISTING OE equipment, having to do with brake sizes (this is by no means 100% accurate, as i've found a few discrepancies in it before.)

in '72, C10s had:
Front - Disc 11.86" rotor
Rear - Drum 11" x 2"

C30's had:
Front - Disc 12.5" rotor
Rear - Drum 13" x 2-1/2"

anyone think that using this more powerful booster will have an adverse effect on the braking, due to the differences in the brake sizes?

There’s one more item to consider that hasn’t been mentioned. That is, what is the wheel cylinder piston size and master cylinder piston size? Typically the larger the brakes, the larger the wheel cylinders and master cylinder. It’s all about ratio and proportion. Until a person has all the specs, it’s very difficult at best to determine how hard or easy stopping will be.
