Power steering?

Hey guys Ive got a question about my power steering, Its probably been asked a million times but with no search who knows! Here goes: Ive got a 67 lwb 2wd 1/2 ton w/ 283 it has factory power steering and a newly rebuilt control valve the problem is it still seems hard to turn and it does not recenter very well. I have bled and bled the system and with the front end up it seems to have a little chatter in it if you watch the tire turn but there is no whine in the system when I drop the front end I do get a small whine when I turn the wheel. I am running 235/60 rubber and Im wondering if that is my problem and if so is there a fix? any help or input would be a great help Thanks

If I remember right there were two different types of systems used in some of the early 67-68 trucks.
Is yours the one that has the large hyd. cylinder on the front linkage? or is it the more typical one that was used on the later style trucks?
This link shows the later style:

I am not sure what the problem is but I think this will help others in diagnosing your problem.

tmad,
I don't know too much about the older units like the one that you have.
You could probably replace it with a later style one if you had a later model donor.
Someone on this board has done it and can probably give you an idea as to what it takes.
What I have heard about the older units is they do work well but they tend to leak.
Anyways this will get your post back to the top.

Here is another link to a guy that I met at a swapmeet a while back and he knows these things inside and out.
Maybe he might know the answer.

Have fun
