remove the windshield take the gasket off the glass and the chrome comes right out , you cant remove the chrome with the glass installed

IF YOU WANT TO SAVE THE GASKET, THE BEST WAY IS WITH THE WINDSHEILD OUT OF THE TRUCK.

IF YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT THE GASKET & PLAN ON REPLACING IT ANYWAY, CUT AWAY WITH AN EXACTO-KNIFE OR RAZOR-KNIFE. JOHN

The fun way is with a hammer. Second best is to cut the gasket from the inside of the cab. I like to use a hook blade. I have tried to take a windshield out but have never done it without cracking it. Thats why I like the knife. The gasket is old in most cases anyway.

I'M WITH DA-BURB.. IT SEEMS LIKE I'VE BROKEN MORE WINDSHEILDS TAKING THEM OUT, THAN PUTTING THEM IN.

When I did my 70, I just busted it out, it had to be replaced anyway. Now when it came time to reinstall and having the experience from my 69, I called safelite. Get this... they charged $17.00 for installation!!!!! I could not belive it! I supplied the gasket, they supplied the windshield. As soon as the service man arrived, he called into the shop and had another guy come out to help. Well they fought for about an hour and decided that the window was not made right and would not fit. They left and retuned in about an hour with a brand new LOFF! It fit perfect and they did not charge me the extra 160 bucks the LOFF cost!
Well as soon as they left I took the hose to it, sure enough it leaked. I called thier shop and with in ten minutes the guys were back. Pulled it out and reinstalled it. Well since then it still leaks but it has a lifetime leak warrenty so someday I am going to take it to their shop and have them fix it but I ma in no hurry, I would not drive it in the rain and have only put 150 miles on it since 1997!

If I am planning on saving the glass and rubber seal , I spray it inside and out with WD-40 or equivalent , and take my plastic winshield knife and work the rubber from the inside . I start on a outside corner cause you kinda have to keep pressure on it , right in the middle will usually crack the glass . If it has been in there a long time , it may be tuff . Thats my pennies worth .... jyd
