going from power to manual brakes

What is involved with changing from power drum to manual drum brakes. Do you just take the booster off and bolt the mc to the firewall? Thanks

I have a truck with manual brakes. They work great. The power brakes have been trouble. I like the manual better myself. Just personal preference I guess

Does that other (manual) truck have disks? Manual drums are like an old Farmall tractor... not so great. I would fix the issues with those power brakes iiwm.

I suppose you would need manual MC w/ the proper length push rod and some new brake lines to MC. My Oreillys had a good selection of fittings (weren't listed online).

FWIW manual front disc is my favorite combo for maintainability/performance.

I did brake job (manual drum) on 66 GMC a few years ago.
New WC, MC, front drums, flex, shoes.
Worst brakes ever.
I cleaned them the other day and noticed the low mileage front shoes had cracks.
Cleaning didn't help; feels like shoes are oiled.
Need to change shoes again.
Just a FYI to note not all shoes are quality.

You will need to use a manual brake push rod, change firewall boot seal from Power booster version to a manual version, unbolt your current master cylinder from the power booster and bolt it to the firewall ( 67-70 master cylinder is the same with or without booster, 71-72 master cylinder is different for manual & power brakes ), tweak brake lines into new position. Finally plug or cap off the vacuum source that supplied the power booster. That's all that's involved.

Don't forget pedal ratio changes. You need a hole 1 1/2 inches higher to bolt your push rod to.

There is no difference in hole location on where you attach the push rod on the brake pedal. Both the power brake push rod and manual brake push rod attach in the same location. The hole in firewall is also exactly the same. There is no difference in this regards.

If you lived in calif that would not be a good choice.these little Honda's here in calif are lighter fast car's and have a hell of a lot better braking then are trucks and some of them play this game i jump in front of you and slam on the brakes

Not sure why you want to try and put any one of are old trucks in harms way Me i be putting 4 wheel disc brakes with hydro boost or a booster But its your life and your truck

I drove a 1965 3/4 ton truck with drum brakes here in calif after i got Power brakes I thank my lucky star's I have help with the booster

I daily drive my 68 with manual drums all around here in SF bay. You just have to pay attention... but i agree, id rather have some power discs.

OP have to tried trading setups with something who may want to go power? Might be easier for all the little parts you need.

Yeah, I might be willing to trade parts with you OP. I've got a '69 3/4 ton with 4 wheel drum. I want to install a booster. I assume your parts are functional? You said you're having trouble with your current system. What types of problems?
