ok, i have looked on here and on google, and i am still having trouble decoding this vin, Please help me

Also, it is a V6, are these motors good

I sold my secret decoder book... however, off the top of my head, I THINK it goes something like this;
K 4 wheel drive
M v-6 gas
10 1/2 ton

Wow, now I'm worried about my own! (sorry to snag the thread).
Went to look up my 70 GMC's vin (HappyShark) and it says it's a '64 stepside!
Who has that (secret) decoder? Common Andy...who'd ya sell it to?

Isn't the month and date of production on the vin tag on the door in the 69's?

my decoder ring and song book was my 69 GMC owners manul that I did sell to a board member.
the thing to remember, they had like 4 of 5 ways of doing there VINs on the GMCs, and even more than one way they did it in a single model year.
I do still have notes, but they are in my seperate hard drive, and for one reason or another, my computer (POS) hasn't recognised my external hard drive in 3 or 4 weeks now... so i couldn't get that info no matter how hard i tried.
As for the GMC Paul's decode... That is for the model number... not the VIN, and I am pretty sure that isn't acurate... plus the fact that the original poster doesn't say anything about a 68. I could be wrong... I could be 100% totally wrong. But I am pretty sure there is no one single decode that would cover that many years.

i know that the truck is a 68 or 69 due to the front clip of it, but the guy doesn't remember. It does have drum brakes all around, is there something else i should look for to help me figure out the year

68 would have a sloped hood, a hand brake, and the fuse box would be mounted 90 degrees off from what your 2 trucks listed in your signiture are.

thanks andy, i think it is a 68 from what you told me, but the truck is pretty beat, but it does have a hand brake and sideways fuse box, but it guess the gmc front end threw me off as to the year

RARE TRUCK! V-6 pickups were only built until March of '69. It should have the 305, and they are not too hard to get parts for. Lots of torque, engine is pretty much indestructable, but does use lots of gas. Here's all the information you could ever want on the GMC V-6:

I think Longhorn Man is right, the '-' is for a special model designator for Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New York. Did Chevy do that too?
