Dome Light question

On my 72 gmc 3/4ton 4x4, I just purchased this truck from a farmer and I'm working on the some of the basics.Anyway my question is that does the dome light come on only with the light switch or did these trucks have door pins?As my truck does not have them..

I've never seen one with door pins. Unless it was an option or someone installed them, they will only come on with the light switch.

I stand corrected if someone says different...

I did install a new light switch and checked bulb,and wiring to light (It has power) but Still no luck.Is there a way to trouble shoot the wires? and which ones?

my 72 3/4 ton has the light, the switch, and the door pins....

not sure if it was stock or not, but is has them and operates on both doors (open=light) that way...

mine 70 also had the door pins that worked the dome light. I have since rewired those door pins to use under the dash lights and work the dome light with the switch under the dome light. I went to a 3rd brake light, so I didn't need that switch for the cargo light anymore.

Nice pic's...That brings up another question after seeing your pic's of your bench seat. Is the bench suppose to lean forward? All mine seems to do is move forward and backwards. Maybe they didn't with the gas tank behind the seat.

as far as i know, there were no production 67-72 thats had a seat the adjusted the back. they only rolled forward and backward.

as far as the dome light..

i think i remember somebody saying once that 71 and up had pins, and 70 and under did not.

im going on memory so its probably wrong...

The door pins were optional, most basic trucks did not have them so the only way to turn on the dome was with the headlight switch.

The wires that control the dome come out of the bottom of the fuse box one is orange one is white, they are connected side by side and run under the drivers door sill plate to the back of the cab. If you have or install the pins they are connected to the white wire. Here are some wiring diagrams

The door pins are easy to do. Purchase them (get the right length for the door to frame space)at your local auto parts store, drill the appropriate size hole in the front door frame, screw pin (pin is threaded to fit the sheet metal like a sheetmetal screw) into the hole and connect a wire to the sliding pin spade terminal. Connect the wire to the orange wire on the dome light. (check the white wire for the hot circuit and connect pins to the ground circuit wire). You are done...

My 71 has them. As far as I know they were a option back then. As stated above very simple to install.

My '71 C-10 has the door pins and they are not listed as an option.

Some seats on the '67 and early '68's could be tilted forward by flipping a lever to allow access behind them.

My daughter's '68 has a seat that tilts and so did a '67 I looked at Sunday.

door operated light switches;
not avalible in 67 or 68.
Optional in 69 - 72, but included ijn CST, Cheyenne, and Cheyenne Supers... so it would not be listed in any truck with those packages.

The seat backs on the 67-68 trucks do tilt forward, the 69-72 do not that is why the bars that connect the back to the bottom are covered with the seat material. Also the door pins are connected to the "white" wire not the orange

Thanks for all the info...Mine is just a custom so thats probably why it doesn't have any hole for door pins.And thanks for the seat info also. I recently replaced the bowl (float) on sending unit and thought it sure would be alittle easier if the seat leaned forward...
