AM Radio Stopped Making Noise - Still Lights Up

Any quick things to check? I have a good multimeter (HVAC contractor). Fuses, connections, common problems? I did a thread search back to early 2013, but couldn't find much.

I'd like to get a better quality dash speaker someday (8-10 ohm, I've read).

The dial light in the 67-72 factory radios is connected to the same circuit that powers the radio. So the fact that it lights up is a good indication that the "radio" fuse and associated connections are okay.

The speaker (or speaker wiring) could be bad. You can check that with your multimeter. Just unplug the 3-terminal connector from the back of the radio and measure the resistance between the black & green wires that lead to the speaker. It should be close to the speaker's nominal impedance (which as you've read is around 8 to 10 Ω). If it's open circuit, you could measure again at the speaker terminals to see if it's the wire or speaker itself that's bad.

I think about 75% of the time it is the speaker. I purchased one from here.

It has a good sound to it.

If you want to get your original one re-coned Jackson Speaker Service does that.(Google it) I had two of them done by them and was happy with the outcome.

Thanks Leon. Noticeably better sound quality/volume from the new speaker? I'll probably just set the old one aside, and install one with newer technology.
