Hi everybody. Have a question for Swap from Russia

Hi, everybody. I Write to you from far Russia. Where too love powerful American cars. Your forum much looked, but all the same there are questions. Forgive, if I write a little unclear. Your help is necessary to me.
At me is caprice 1992, with alteration from TBI in the carburetor Holley 8105. Everything suits me, but it is necessary to move further. Now I will put 5,3 (Vortec 297 horsepowerfrom Silverado) and here this system http://www.jegs.com/p/Edelbrock/Edel...55239/10002/-1 + the carburetor http://www.jegs.com/i/Edelbrock/350/1406/10002/-1.
I have a question:
1. Can leave I the old gearbox 4L60?
2. It is necessary to put an external gasoline pump?
3. What will be necessary even at alteration?
4.here spoke about flexplate ($ ~49). For what it is necessary and where it to put?
5.If nevertheless to put a box 4L60е, how to be with tranny?
Thank you all for your responses.
Dino.

Re: Hi everybody. Have a question for Swap from Russia

First off let me say welcome to the forum from the middle of the USA!

As for your trans, it might be useable, but it depends on if its a 4l60 or a 4l60e. The non electronic trans is a 700r4 and you'll need to hook a TV cable up to the TB. You'll also need a spacer if I remember corrrectly.

The fuel pump can be changed to a higher pressure pump and can be left in the tank.

Alot of variables depend on what year your engine is, and whether or not its drive by wire.

To go carbed you can probably reuse the TBI pump but install a fuel regulator. TBI runs 9-13 psi and a carb only needs like 7psi. A fuel regulator should help turn the pressure down. You shouldn't have to go to a 4L60E. You can probably use a 700r4 or 4L60 on that engine but not sure what flywheel you'd need. You will definitely have to run the correct TV cable bracket on the carb.

Well, thank you very much. And another question. why the need for flaxeplate? understand that this is necessary for the transmission. But where more specific?

The flex plate is basically a flywheel for automatic transmissions. Its not as thick and bulky as a flywheel, because all the flexplate does is create a spot for the torque converter to bolt to.

I think it's a spacing issue. If you get the flexplate that came on a 5.3 you have to use a shim on the crank for it to fit on a 700 torque converter. There is some info here...

Re: Hi everybody. Have a question for Swap from Russia

I didn't look at the links you posted, so I missed that you were using a carb, so disregard what I said about the fuel pump.
