were restorin my dads 72 blazer and the seats are trashed so i was wondering what you guys have done about that. is there still some orginals layin around anywhere or any nice substitutions/replacements? thanx for any help

The easiest thing might be to re-do the original seats. You can get "original" reproduction covers from many sources and foam too.

There are Blazer buckets for sale out there...you could try the parts board...but shipping is a killer....and most would need new covers anyway.

You could also use seats from other vehicles, just depends on what look your restore is going for. I've seen seats used from just about every other vehicle out there...none as good as the original.

Keep the originals and just buy the new covers. There are several board menbers who have recently recovered their seats. I think BobK (or BobbyK) just finished his.

My seats looked trashed, but now they are great - Frank from PickMups in WA (approx $550.00) ordered them and I had an upholstery guy put them on and refoam them ($125 a piece) I love them! I could have bought a set of newer seats on ebay or something instead though, but I like the original seats look. Even tho these covers aren't original colors.

Thanks Bouncytruck...yes I did redo my buckets.
One was pretty trashed,the foam was in bad cond., the seat frame was rusted and cracked as well as being out of square.

I stripped the foam off down to the frame and welded in some extra braceing after squareing it back up.

I then got the frame powder coated to protect it for another 32 years.

I went to an upholstery shop and bought some 1/2" and 1" foam.I then proceeded to rebuild the foam.I used a 3M spray adhesive and stuck on the new foam.I cut and shaped it with an old meat carver...you know one of those electric knives your Dad used to cut the Turkey with on Christmas.It worked well and it was fast.

It not as hard as you'd think.I had never done any upholstery work before this and I think things turned out o.k.

BobbyK - I just saw on Motorcycle Mania the guy cutting the foam on a seat with a meat cutter. Very ingenious. I'm impressed with how well your seats turned out!
