1966 Data Plate Color

I've been researching my data tag that's located on the driver's kick panel. Everything I have seen so far shows the color to be blue. I've had my truck for30 years and the only color I can remember it being was black.

Do these tags loose their color over the years?

You're right about that, it looks black. They don't seem to be reproducing 66 plates. So I don't know what they "should" look like. I'm still not sure if it was a year change or what.

Re: 1966 Data Plate Color

I cant remember the name of the place so maybe someone can put it here, but there is a place that restores trim and data tags back to original. I will look for it and post it. I had it saved at one time.

Re: 1966 Data Plate Color

I tried them. He said he doesn't "Have that one".

I'm hoping someone here can take a pic of their tag that clearly shows a blue background. Then I can try a method that will reproduce the look decently enough at least from a distance.

Cool, that's the best one I've seen. Is this a repo? Reason I ask is that my original has the "LB." printed, not stamped.

Re: 1966 Data Plate Color

Thanks! Is yours a 66? It doesn't have the 327 listed so I would guess it's a 65. Although I think the 327 tag may have come out in late 65, correct?

Hey, I'm new at this. Lol. But yes, mine is a 65. What does the "WB" stand for in the bottom left hand corner? I know mine says:

Trim: Std. Standard (does this mean no trim?)
Paint: 525 (Fawn) AA (Tuxedo black)
WB: ???
CA: ???

Thanks for the help. And sorry to hijack your post. Ha

Re: 1966 Data Plate Color

"WB" is wheel base. And do you mean "CA"? I saw it somewhere recently. Something about the cab. Pickup trucks don't have this item I suppose.

Re: 1966 Data Plate Color

And you're right, base means no trim. Mine is a custom and it has "RPO Z62AA" Can't remember what that code actually means. Not sure if all customs have the same code or what.

Re: 1966 Data Plate Color

Z62 is the Custom Comfort option. Not sure what the AA means though. My sub has the Z62 option; Chrome bumpers, stainless grill, guage package and side trim. The only thing I cant figure out is with all these options, why not a custom heater? Seems these trucks all have the Thrift-Aire heater, like mine.

I do know that AA means Tuxedo black.

A word of caution - be careful when cleaning around the plate. I don't know what they are painted with, but cleaners like super clean will take it right off (ask me how I know) I was sickened because mine was perfect.

Yeah I found out the hard way too. Something dripped on it and removed the printing without even rubbing on it!
