Heads & Engine Info Requested for 68.

What kind of heads came on a 68 1/2 ton with a 327? Also does anyone have the casting number of the 327 from the back of the block? I am going to look at a engine on Sat and want to try and match it all up if possible. I have found some on mortec and I am curious if there are more out there.
Mortecs numbers.
3931638....68......327..........Truck
3914638....327.....68....2...Truck

Thanks

My 327 block is a 3914678. Large journal, 2 bolt mains.

My books lists that block as being used in the 350's too all the way to 79. It was used in just about every car and truck that Chevy produced from 68-79.

My heads are 3911032. It appears that these also came on the 307's

I'm sure both are original to my truck.

My book also lists 3917290 and 3917293 Heads as being 68/327 truck heads. The 3911032 and 3917290 heads lack accessory bolt holes. The 3917293 heads have accessory bolt holes on one end.

I can't find those block casting numbers you have listed in my book.

I have "Cars and parts" "Chevy V-8 Engine casting numbers 1955-93". It's a must for anyone researching casting numbers.

Thanks for the info toms68cst. You mentioned large journal? I have heard that there is a small journal. Which is the better of the two or does it matter? To be honest I think I am looking for a needle in a hay stack. I did find one guy in my area that has that block. I am going to see him on sat and see whats what with it.

I'm not expert but between 67 and 68 the Chevy small blocks went from small journal to large journal. I think it has to do with the diameter of the crank where it spins in the main bearings in the block. I don't know the proper terminology. Obviously you can't mix and match the two.
