I love seeing one of ours on steroids.I built a pro-street`70 Stepside that dynoed @600hp+/-.It was a warmed up LS6.I`ve known of way more than that these days.But,that thing sure did rumble and scoot.Unfortunately I barely had it done and financial woes forced me to sell it,since it was fresh and brought good money.
I started another and the same old blues hit me,along with other changes.So,Project Poor Boy emerged as a 350 horse cruiser.

My built 406 has plenty of power and it breaks the loose at any speed below 50..my set up should be at right around 400hp to the wheels. Not the wildest I have ever owned but definetly a great sleeper.

got a low mile rebuilt 406 going in my 72 burb 3/4ton 2wd. it ran like a son of a gun in my dad's 84 burb 1/2ton 2wd.....like a big camaro. but yes, there are much bigger and meaner rigs out there. stacie david's 67 super big block powered truck has like 630hp naturally aspirated and will leave a rubber patch all the way down the track. there comes a point that the power over a certain level is purely academic (bragging rights tied to wallet size) because street going trucks don't have the aerodynamics necessary to make complete use of that power (high speed driving). if i had tons of money and wanted the ultimate tow rig i'd put a brand new duramax 6.5 (keep it GM) w/ the best banks kit and allison 6 speed trans in my truck.

the new generation big block 572 crate motor has 630hp on premium gas. i think it is something like 550 on 87 octane. absolutely overkill on one of our trucks....but totally awesome. it would pass everything but a gas station!!!

there is debate over who got the first 572.....stacie or jay leno. if you check out the big dog garage you will see jay's tri-five (buick) with the same engine and he claims he was the first. he does get his hands on a lot of beauties when they first come out, but i heard about this motor years ago when the copperhead project was still being built (on powerblock/trucks)....so i tend to side with stacie's claim.

Just a newbie question from a guy who hasn't been a gearhead for long...Can you put all that Hp to the ground and make it stick? (apart from spending $10k on a whole new, super high tech setup) I like the acceleration, although the rubber left on the road is quite impressive.

my cousin just built a duramax and allison for a 70 model that made 900hp at the rear wheels. i have no link, but you can go to youtube and do a search for "nastygirl" and "merchant" its a crew cab 4wd 3/4 ton chevy with a duramax making 1004 hp at the rear wheels. my cousin built that truck, merchant automotive in zeeland michigan
