I milled my own bed wood for my 71 and it came out OK. I am doing another set or boards for a local supplier and wondered if others have milled their own wood. Question I have is how much or how did you cut the edges? I cut a small amount down and then cut a slice the thickness of my blade to fit the edge of the strips. Would be cool if they had a router bit for this? Mine just don't look 100% and I want to tighten it up a bit. I've attached a couple of pics the arrows show the area of concern. Just a look.

Yeah...you should have at the very least a router table, but if you plan on doing any sort of production on that kind of stuff a shaper table would be better. Looks pretty good

If you are using a table saw, try a stacking dado blade if possible. i am really not sure what the profile is supposed to be, but if is a T&G sort of thing dados can work

Heres all the official dimensions. (Compliments of GMC Pauls) And they are Dead on when compared to my old rotted wood I took out. A dado bit set on a table saw works quite well/. Ask me how I know.

Just did mine last week.

COOL I have the GM Pauls stuff and completely forgot. I just laminated up a sample board with 2 1/4 in strips of Mahogany in it. I'll post a pic next week

WOW glad I looked at this thread. This is info I have needed for quite some time. Now when we are ready to put the wood into the bed we can do it. Thanks!!!!!!!!!

it can All be done with a table saw as shown. I just use a alternate bevel 60 tooth carbide blade. your groove on the edge of the bed strip only needs to be 1/8 inch wide. looks like you have a little to wide of a slot. it should be just a tiny bit wider than the strip. otherwise it looks good. Bed wood is one of the things just about anyone can do. its fun to do and is an instant improvement

I agree with MBGMike. My groves are a little to big. They are the exact spec of GMCpaul. It would be better with a 1/16. I have a 14 in table saw and that new blade would be pricey. However I am hoping to whole sell them to a local supplier so they have to be perfect.

I have just laminated a sample board of ash with 2 mahogany strips that run 1/2 from the skid strip. I'll post pics next week.
