Maaco Job

Well guys, my parents offered me to get my trucks rust repair and paint done at maaco since I've been doing so good with school and working around the house. My mom tells me her friend just got his done there and it was nice, but after I've heard about maaco I don't think I trust them just yet... She says they make their money gettin you in and out, but if I specify to them to take there time and do it right that they will put in the work for a little extra money... What do you guys think of this? Should I try it or should I leave it be for now?

Re: Maaco Job

Depends if you want a show winning truck or not. That said, I have seen some very good "$249 Presidential special" paint jobs come out of Maaco.

Re: Maaco Job

I don't want a show truck paint job, I want something nice but nothing to a show job. I dont want it painted how vehicles are nowadays... Without dissasembly, i want it done right... My parents said that the friend that just got his rust repair and Two tone paint done cost him about a grand. I think... I'll get that checked as soon as I get home! I want mine to have a white top, with a gumby bottom color. Then I'm gonna do a bedlining job in the back and put a wood bed kit in it.

Well, if you're parents are offering to paint your truck...thru Maaco, then I suspect that your parents (like most of us) are not endlessly rich and have a budget number (cost) to consider with their thoughtful offer.
My simple take on this is that if they are doing this for you....you should definitely respect the generous favor they are doing for you.
If you want more than what the base cost is (ie: what your parents expect to pay), then you should probably pay for all the extras you want yourself and not expect your parents to necessarily (happily/willingly) pick up those costs.
You will be ahead of the game and end up with a relatively nice paint job that should last you a few years until you maybe have a few more shekels to do it all yourself.
good luck

Re: Maaco Job

Their $2500 paint job includes some sanding and masking looks decent, then they have a $1600 setup. Either one of those two paint plans are fine. Go with anything cheaper you will regret it. Any body work is stacked on top of that.

i think you should quit posting during the school day from your phone and get back to studying so your parents don't change their minds.

Re: Maaco Job

Whatever the agreed upon price and scope of work is, make sure the paint shop spells out every last detail on paper. What body work will be done and how it will be done, the color code, what parts will be used, quality of paint, everything you can think of. Your idea of a complete paint job and his might be two different things, especially if you are taliking about dissasembly and fixing rust for $1000.00.

Re: Maaco Job

I am doing the Maaco Body work and paint job on my 79 Z28. They told me up front that it was going to take awhile. If a body shop has good employees who enjoy their work, you get a good job done. The Maaco I am talking about has come highly recommended. It has been voted by the City of Virginia Beach as Best in the Beach for 2012. I have had work done at one of the highly recommended shops here on another one of my cars and just a few years later I am not and was not impressed. The shop took six months when I was told it was going to take six weeks. And the quality was not there.
Sincerely,
Kerry

Re: Maaco Job

A buddy of mine ran a body shop, and he would prep some of his cars, then take it to MAACO for a paint job, he made sure to get a certain guy that knew what he was doing. He said they painted it cheaper than he could. I took a car there, but forgot to ask for the one guy, it ended up with some runs in the paint, but it was the cheap, one-stage paint.
