AZ 1972 K5 4X4 454/4-speed AC, 3:73 posi very little rust!

I replaced a lot of parts on this thing to get it road ready, so it is in a lot better shape, now than it was when i originally tried to sell. I rebuilt the front axle with new ball joints (4 of them) and new u-joints on both front axles, as well as the the other 5 in the front and rear driveshafts. The engine had a wobble/vibration, turns out the PO put the 454 in with a SBC non-externally balanced flywheel! Swapped in a brand new 454 flywheel and a new ZOOM clutch pack (clutch, flywheel, throwout bearing, etc). The motor runs super smooth and like a top! She drives super straight, no wandering, or anything like that since the front suspension and steering parts are all new!! She is as nice as can be and ready for a road trip, fly in AND DRIVE HOME, FUEL IS DIRT CHEAP NOW!!

She has a set of 15X8 ralleys that were blasted and powder coated with a new set of 4 33X12.50X15 tires, so she is ready to be someones Daily Driver, or super ready to be a resto since the body is so nice and rust free!

Well, I am at a crossroads in my life, little background. I am 36 and just had a spinal fusion in my lower three vertebra. I am better, but signs are showing me I may only have few builds left in me if I plan to walk under my own power for the next 30 years or so!! Enough of that, I have been kicking around the idea of converting this thing to a 2wd (but I bought a factory 2wd, so??) This started life out as an Arizona Game and Fish vehicle and has a State of AZ property tag in it somewhere (saw it once, can't remember where!?) The tank is a sheetmetal tank, that I think is a dealer add on?? I have seen them on other Blazers and Burbs, bigger capacity and bullet proof! I have swapped on a 68 clip and it has some multi colored panels, but they are in original paint or a single coat of grey primer. There is no bondo that I can tell of? I bought this thing in primer, and I know it is white (factory color originally), then maybe a coat of dark metalic blue, then primer, so there may be some bondo, but nothing major as you can reach up into the panels in the rears and there is no rust, dents or replaced metal, this thing is super rust free in the quarters. It has has had the DS inner and outer rocker changed out and a portion of the floor with new metal welded in, but needs the PS I & O rockers to be completely rust free (I have those panels) It is a double walled top that is nice with no major flaws, hatch works as it should, no cracks, and the handle and lock assembly funtion as they should. It has buckets, covered in perforated vinyle, and the rear seat was recovered in a light brown velour, all seats are nice with no tears. This is solid and the nicest Blazer I've owned as far as the tub/body goes. These all liked to rust in the rear quarters, and this one didn't not at all, so I bought it! It is currently a 454/4-speed from a 73 truck, the motor runs super strong, burns nothing and it dependable as well as economical in that is a bone stock 454. That being said, i have a 250 L6 as well as a 350 I can put in it if the appetite for fuel of the 454 concerns you?? It is an AC truck, but the compressor and lines are missing from when it was a SBC, but the firewall and underdash portion are all there.

I am listing it in the parts section simply because it is a driver, but more project. It is tight and I drive it quite a bit, but to most it is a solid candidate for a full resto or at least some paint and body work. Check out the picts and LMK???

Yeah, as is, no sweat, 4-row with a clutch fan she never heats up and doesn't burn oil. I drove it home 250 miles without touching anything, and have since done oil changes, diff changes, trans lube change, plugs, wires, dist, carb, etc. Fly into PHX and drive it home.

Wow, I need that body! would you be interested in selling body minus front clip and you can keep the drivetrain. I have a '72 CST loaded and totally rotted away that would be a perfect marriage. Just a thought.

I actually thought about putting this tub on my 72 2wd for the same reason, but can't force myself to take it apart. As for your deal, take it whole and part it once you get it home (a tub will be hard and expensive to ship) whereas a complete running driving Blazer would be easier and cheaper, and the AZ rust free sheetmetal will sell nicely in SC, as would a drivetrain/rolling chasis?? LMK

As a side note, I bought my short step from mike. I flew to AZ, he met me at the airport, we made the deal, and I drove it back home to Houston without a hiccup. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again if he says it is in good shape and can make the trip. Just a little bit of personal knowledge.

Re: AZ 1972 K5 4X4 454/4-speed AC, 3:73 posi very little rust!

Thanks Shawn, I try my best to show it as is and keep my word. Thanks for the props! BTW I rebuild the top end of that motor just to be sure it'd make it as well! I was fiddling with it and I came across a stripped alt bolt hole and needless to say that led me to replacing the heads!!

C'mon, buy it, I have sold three of these and none as rust free or solid and have gotten more than my asking price? I know times are hard and fuel thing/economy/etc, etc is waying heavy but this is a solid deal and worth every cent, I think??

Yours is the first I've seen with a big block/4spd in a 4x4. Do you have any pics of the frame towers/motor mounts(SB or BB?) and especially the clutch linkage? Especially the z-bar and rod where it slides on the ball that bolts to the motor. I'll be doing the same thing soon and it would help a lot to see it on yours. Is the firewall beat in around the valve covers? Thanks and good luck with the sale. That's definitely the most rust free Blazer I've ever seen.

Re: AZ 1972 K5 4X4 454/4-speed AC, 3:73 posi very little rust!

It's all in there with the SBC mount in the stock SBC location, exhaust manifolds, etc no dents in the firewall, just snug with the factory low rise valve covers. As for the linkage, I am not close enough to snap picts, but if I get over to where it is stored I can gladly shoot some picts. Closest one to completely rust free I've seen for anywhere near the price (lots of $10-15-20K rust free Blazers for sure).

Great thanks for letting me know. And if you snap a couple pics of the linkage, that would help out a lot. Thanks again and BTTT.

Mike,

I was only dreaming. i would have the same reservations. sorry for being rude and not mentioning your surgery. I hope all goes well with it and most most importantly, you can come back complete to keep going on with life.

PS: I like your quote.

Re: AZ 1972 K5 4X4 454/4-speed AC, 3:73 posi very little rust!

Well, it is a running driving, road legal/worthy vehicle, if you can handle driving a primered vehicle I wouldn't hesitate to call it a DD. BUT, it is the most rust free Blazer I've had and I have had like 6 or them, so it is also the nicest start to a pretty easy resto, with minimal rust repair and body work to get a nice paint job, so it is a deal for what it is wheather you buy and drive or buy and restore?! I have the missing headlight and bucket from the last photos, and now I have the bezels as well, it is a complete ready to drive anywhere vehicle!! I put new body bushings in it and they can be seen in the picts from the underneath view, as well as a complete tune up/fluid change, etc. She'll be nicer leaving than she has been while I've owned it? I am very concious of selling a vehicle to someone who wants to drive it home any distance, but to date I have sold no fewer than 10-15 vehicles here and on ebay and more than half have flown in and driven home, one guy clear to Canada (4 hours north of Detroit, MI), which was nothing short of a marathon of over 2500 miles, and I have yet to have a complaint?? I know trust is an issue with all the crap you hear off of ebay, craigslist, etc, but I do my best to be honest and worthy of trust, Shawn (jorgensensc) was one of the folks I've sold a vehicle to and he flew into Phoenix (Sky Harbor) and drove home to houston, TX with not so much as a hitch, I think that speaks volumes, I hope??

Any more questions, ask, I have nothing to hide, the picts are a progression from the top to bottom of when I bought it to now so the last picts is how it sits now except I have the other headlight in it now! I have a black carpet for it new in the box, but didn't put it down because the PS still needs some work. Also the tires that are on the front in the last photos, I have two more (a full set of four), they are 15" X 8" 6-lug truck ralleys, that were blasted and powder coated (I bought them that way with the nearly new 33" tires), so it will have a full matching set of 33" tires that are almost new with the ralleys, so again it is completely ready for a long or short road trip!! ??'S just ask away, I may be putting the 2wd Blazer up as well since I am trying to get my $$$ straightened out after all of the missed work/wages from my surgery.

Mike, that's a great deal. I would be all over in a heartbeat if I wasn't broke and had too many projects as it is. Great deal for all us rustbelters, dunno about anyone else, but finding a blazer at all let alone one that clean around here is impossible. Cross country in a BBC Blazer...Priceless!!!! Bump for you, good luck, hope it sells.

I think it is sold, thanks for all the posters checking it out!

I may end up selling the 72 2wd Blazer as well since I am project rich but $$$$ poor!
