Yes it should work. Only thing different with the springs are the spring eye sizes which is irrelevant. Same length/width.

I just put a '73 12bolt in a '87 frame. It works. Easy check is to measure from outside to outside of spring perch.

One last question,
Do you suspect any driveshaft/U-joint mods, that may be needed?
Brake line/hose location?
(If the spring perches are in the same locations)

Guy wants to do this swap in the morning.

I hate to give up a damn good large brake 12-bolt rear axle, but I am getting a 95% complete(no trans) 3/4 ton, (with a mint cab) out of the whole deal.
Have to give some to get some, kinda like ya have to spend $$ to make $$.......
Thanks for any info!

Captkaos, where are you at, on the project truck ?

And what causes an 87 10 bolt rear to go bad and have tons of backlash, only after 13 years, its not like you can load 2 tons into the back of a burb to wear out the axle or anything....... Are 10 bolt truck axles just junk ??
I wonder why GM even dropped the 12-bolt in 83, in the first place,,, odd.....

Oh, I found out that the G-10 rear axles are way longer (wider) than the C-10 axles.....

Later on....

Trailer pulling. I guy I work with used to have a 78 suburban from new, and used it to pull his 66 Chevelle race car. He had the rear end replace 3 times. But I guess that's what you will get using a halfton to do a 3/4 ton's work.

Probably too late, but mine bolted right in with not problems. Brake lines routing and location are the same on all years. (not counting E-Brake cable routing)

Acutally I am working on another truck. Trying to get started to Putting airbags on it. Got the 87 frame, 76 rearend, '86 front suspension, '80 Bed (got Sunday for $150), '73 Cab and '86 Front clip. Now I just gotta get front suspension bolted on and the bag brackets welded in/on. Then I can put the body parts together. Already have an inline6 lined up for it and the Muncie M22 will probably be going behind it.

Work on the project is at bending the fuel lines (TBI for Blazer) for the frame and getting them where I want them, plus ordering the stainless braided brake lines. In addition, soon the Project will be going to my garage so I can work on it out of the weather.
