Dome light not working

Bought a new dome light assembly and plugged it in.
Dome light is constant on. Only shuts off if I turn headlights on.
When plugged in and headlights are off, dome light is on with NO change when I turn switch to left. It will dim the dome light when turning to right.
New light came with wiring, one orange, one white wire with a T shaped connector.
I am plugging it into what I assume is the factory connector.
Same T shape, although it has a single white wire in one terminal and both an orange and yellow wire in the other terminal. This connector is right next to fuse box.
Truck is a 69 with no door pin switches so I "assume" dome light only activates when turning headlight switch to left ??
Thanks for any information. You have been a great help.

Re: Dome light not working

Brad, it sounds like you may have the power for the dome light on the wrong terminal on the headlight switch. The dome light should not dim at all, only the dash lights on the I/P.

The white wire is what typicaly grounds the dome light through the jam switches when the doors are open. If you don't have jam switchs then I am not sure the white wire will even apply here. It sounds like you get the ground from the body and supply power through the headlight switch.

You should be able to use a 12V test light and figure out which terminal on the headlight switch powers up when you turn the knob to the left (when it clicks).

Hopefully some one else who has a truck with no jam switches will chim in and help. My truck has jam switches and I am sure they are wired different.
