Automatic Steering Column questions

I spent the day yesterday swapping the 3spd manual column in my 69 C10 for a 71 or 72 Automatic column and I have a few questions.

1) Most pictures i've seen show the shifter when it's in park up around 1:30. Mine is lower, and I messed around with it but if I clock it up more then my turn signal stalk starts to point down in the middle position. So my question is , should the wire recess in the bottom of the column be clocked at 6:00?
2) There is a clamp under the hood at the fire wall, what does this hold?
3) I have the pointer and the optic cable, what does the cable connect to and does that piece connect to the headlight switch?
4) Has anyone tried the stock automatic linkage with a 200 4R trans?

Thanks in advance for any help.
