Rea Axle's Length? 1969

Is the Rear axle shorter or longer than today's axles?

I'm swapping my 69 rear axle out for a 93 chevy 2wd rear axle. (why? Newer and way better gears)

NOw the question is: "Do I need Spacers for rim/tires or not in the reat"

"I've heard the newer chevy axles are shorter an inch or longer? <--That's the real question?
