Newbee.
So I have always wanted to restore a truck, but figured I was still a couple of years away. My wife the other day sent me a link on Facebook for a truck. I called and immediately offered him $500 and had it sitting in my driveway that night. It is a 68 v8 with a 4spd. I plan on getting it running on Thurs and then finding out why the brake lights don't work, hope to drive it this weekend and start to restore it. The previous owner says that it has a 350 in it but I want to verify that, I think it is the 307. I think all it needs to run is the carb cleaned from sitting.

Re: Newbee.
I like the right-side-up picture better. I think you should keep it that way.
Seriously, that's a nice truck for what you paid. And it's always nice to have new members on the board. Sometimes they help us older guys get re-energized on our own projects. Welcome, and congratulations on your truck. |

Always a good thing when you have the wife's support. I'm lucky when it comes to that. Good to have you on board and

Re: Newbee.
Not sue how to rotate the picture, it will not allow me to edit my post. What is the easiest way to find out which v8 I have? I. Ordered a new window for the drivers door and a new door handle from classic industries, that is the best place I have found for parts so far, any other good places that I should look for parts?

Re: Newbee.
I have been out of town since the day after I bought it, but I am on my way home now. Is there a place to look for the engine serial number? I assume that it is on the engine, just wanted to know where to start looking. Both rocker panels need to be replaced, but from the initial inspection, not a lot of other rust. Figured I am going to get it running first and then drive it and slowly work on it. There will be a lot of first on this truck for me. I have never replaced rocker panels before and I have never rebuilt an engine. Besides the actual paint, I plan on doing everything myself.

Re: Newbee.
Forgot to ask, what body style is my truck. From looking at the vin, it says wideside, is that different from a fleetside?

Re: Newbee.
Can someone please post a picture of where the oil dipstick goes into the block. I found the dipstick and sleeve for it laying on the ground. Can't find where it goes back in.

Re: Newbee.
I can't get my truck running, I am not getting fuel. Replaced the fuel pump, still nothing. Disconnect the fuel line between the tank and pump, not clogged. Blew air into the tank, appears to be no blocks. If I pull the line from the valve on the tank should fuel come out? It's not. Is the valve need to be taken off and replaced or cleaned? Here is a picture of the valve.

Re: Newbee.
From the looks of that valve, there is a few things missing, like the handle and fuel line. If you have only one tank, remove the valve and put a line in its place. Try getting a fuel jug and running a line from the jug to the pump and see what happens, or if you have an electric pump, bypass everything and go straight to the carb. Possibly you have a cracked rubber fuel line and it is sucking air.
You have a real keeper of a wife there to find a truck for you.

Re: Newbee.
The line was taken off so that I could blow air through it. Should fuel be coming out without the line on it?the. It does have 2 tanks, but I was told the 2nd tank haven't been used for years. I plan on taking it out on the restoration.
