Steering wheel project - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have always liked the 67 CST and 67-68 standard horn buttons, but disliked the 67-68 3 spoke steering wheel. I like the similar, 2 spoke design used on the 60-66 trucks. They are around 250 for a repop, and are somewhat scarce to come by in a junkyard. I found one recently in decent shape, and decided to start restoring it. When I mounted the cap using the 60-68 cup, the cap stuck up way too high. I used a 69-72 cup, which is shallower, and it pulls the cap down over the lip of the wheel, nice and tight. It operates perfectly, and when pressing the button, it stops shy of hitting (bottoming out) on the hub by 1/16 of an inch. I know from MisterB's experience that you cannot use a 69-72 cup when using the 67-68 wheel and a 67-68 horn button. The plastic ring used on the 60-68 trucks must be used in either case, as the 69-72 ring is thicker. In short, I had to use a 69-72 cup and a 60-68 plastic ring to mount a 67-68 horn button to a 60-66 steering wheel!

That's really nice now. So cool to figure out a cool little mod like this using nothing more than perfectly matched readily available parts that were never meant to be used together. Even when it takes a slight tweak it's just too cool. This is how it all began. Thanks for cracking the code on a way cool enhancement
