Re: 72 lisence plate
I don't have a picture but I've got a SA 1972 tag on my truck. It is black in the shape of KS with white lettering.

Re: 72 lisence plate
I can see wanting your home county, but there's nothing to say you can't use the LV county tag in Saline county. The only requirement is that it be a Kansas-issued plate with the embossed year. I've got a Sedgwick county plate registered to my Douglas county truck. The 'specialty antique' registration that you get shows the numbers off the tag that you bring in, but not the county.
There's also a DG county plate on the front.

Re: 72 lisence plate
Well, OK then. It's been five years since I did this. What happens when the
'77 models get to be antiques and all we have are 77 stickers on a 76 base plate?

Re: 72 license plate
Yep that's me. I picked my plate up from a guy here in town named Paul I think. He said I should meet up with you guys to cruise but seems like I've always got something going on thurs night. My 72 is in some serious need of some bodywork, is your truck getting painted here in town? If so who's doing it? I've been in town several years now but haven't had much luck with any bodyshops here so far. I'm ready to have someone install my spindles and springs and get to work on the body but not sure where to go.

Re: 72 license plate
Totally off topic but is the onion burger slider restuarant still in town.
"Burgers by the Sack" Also a word of advice: Go to the DMV and apply for a collectors license, it only cost around $75.00 but then you can get titles for your vehicles without insurance, and without having to get them titled as NON OP. It also cuts down on your property tax for the vehicles.

Re: 72 license plate
Glad to see all the KS members.
Here is the info from the Tag Offices Website: Effective January 1, 2000, Kansas antique vehicle owners are allowed to display a Kansas issued license plate that corresponds to the vehicle year of the antique, providing the vehicle and license plate are at least thirty-five years. Example: 1956 Ford with Kansas License plate initially issued in 1956 will have a "56" on the plate. The antique owner will be required to complete the Antique Model Year License Plate Affidavit attesting that the vehicle model year and the year of issuance on the license plate are the same. The plate to be used must not be altered or defaced and must be as originally issued by the State of Kansas as pursuant to K.S.A. 8-172(c). Physical proof of insurance on the vehicle showing issue and expiration date will be required. Cost- $43.00 in addition to registration fees. Once the vehicle is registered, you will be mailed a personal property tax statement every year in December. Hope that clears it up. I don't see where it is County specific, just a Kansas Plate from the right year. Make sure you bring the tag with you as they will want to make a photocopy of it to send in with the paperwork. |

Re: 72 license plate
That's the verbiage that I remembered, but didn't go look up. Unfortunately, there are still those in official positions that aren't aware. As recently as last August, I've been pulled over for 'illegal license plate'. It was 15 minutes, two radio calls and a "let me show you where the plate # matches the registration slip" before the clown from JO county's sheriff's dept turned me loose.

Re: 72 lisence plate
No offense taken at all. I was just surprised to hear that there might have been a change in requirements.

Re: 72 license plate
You can title any tag that you want in any county. My friend lives in Lyon County and he put a 60 Ks tag on his vette from Harvey county. There is NO restriction on that. It is just what you want to look for. Go to the swap meet in Wichita (at the colliseum), the first weekend in February and look---there are a lot of sellers that have plates (new unused ones also) They are plentiful if you spend the time. The Saline County tags are out there.

They are out there, I have two from the county that I am in and they are both brand new, still in the package. The cost was around $15.00 each.
