250 air cleaner

All,

I upgraded to a 11" brake booster when adding disc brakes and original air cleaner no longer fits on the monojet single barrel carb. What is best solution? With tighter clearance it seems a 8-9" air cleaner is as large as I can go. The carb has a manual choke so I need to figure out about a 1" rise as well. Any direction would be appreciated.

Safety concern for you.
Move or eliminate that fuel filter.
They tend to crack and leak. Not a good spot over the exhaust.

^ Indeed. I had one of those on my '66 Le Mans that was dripping on the intake manifold exhaust crossover. Crazy. I'm actually considering replacing the fuel filter on my truck with something like the inline filter that the general put between the tank and the fuel pump.

If you’re not worried about originality try a search on mini air filters found this real quick . And ditch that filter asap they tend to leak .

The right design but not sure on the riser fitting onto the carb.
Might need an adaptor for that.

I wouldn't wish one of those little tiny air cleaners on anyone.

With a Clifford Intake and a 4bbl you need even more room. I used a booster without the bell crank to move the MC farther away from the engine.

I used the original '67 offset air cleaner, but welded on a much larger throat for the Carter AVS and enlarged the passage way across the top, to prevent restriction.
Originally, I kept it as a oil bath, but could never keep it clean. I gutted the inside and converted it to use a paper filter.

That vent tube on the top of your carb is for a Charcoal Canister. Not sure what you have under that tape, but the float bowl needs to be able to breath so you can't close it off completely. I cut the conical center out of a Rochester stone filter and jammed into the vent tube on my Carter. Every couple of years I pull it out and clean it.


I'd rethink that manual choke, cable holder. The original holder would have been similar to this one that Edelbrock sells. It could be trimmed and maybe even a new hole drilled to make it more compact and probably more reliable. It uses one of the carb top screws.

I bought this from Speedway for $20, maybe less. Used a longer bolt for the stud as stock was too short. Manual choke. Has a punch out in bottom for breather hose

I crossed over into the 4 Barrel camp in 1978, so I can't help the OP's quest for an aftermarket Monojet air cleaner.

Here's one I have where a previous owner chopped a chunk out and flipped it around(and welded it back in) and then trimmed the top. I cleaned up the work some and have been happy enough with it.

Yes, that should fit, but the riser may be too tall. There were two different length risers, but I don't recall which one is needed on a 250. The air cleaners may not be the same between a 250 and 292 but are close enough to work with the correct riser..

It is a 1968, daily drove it for about a month over the winter. It's much dirtier than that now, but that photo was right after putting it back together.

I need an updated picture but couldn't find one. Got a longer Positive battery cable so it's not just draped over the inner fender and replaced the 3/4 ton booster and MC with aftermarket.
