flywheels and starters

okay i built m,y 305 out of an 78-79c-10 i have the flywheel out of the same truck i had it turned at school is the teeth the same as the 71 307? i just trying to figure out if i need a different starter the the ornigal one

Use the starter off the engine you rebuilt and you should be good to go.

If you don't have that starter, check the mounting hole bolt pattern between the rebuilt block and the starter. If the bolt pattern is the same, it should work.

i dont have the starter off the 305 as far as mounting hole they are on the bellhouseing i am need to know about the number of teeth

If you are talking about an automatic trans There are two types of starters and two sizes of flexplates that apply during those years, 14" 168 tooth plate uses the starter that has the staggered bolt pattern and the 11.5" plate 153 tooth uses the starter with the side by side bolt pattern. Hope this helps you out?
