Wear to tie down on the front end of your 68 long stepside for long travel?

So I’am going to pick up my 68 long stepside at the end off the month in az. I haven’t seen it for 25 years and the 2nd owner can’t remember if it has any issues, my wife took pictures of it in October and it looks like it’s in great shape no real issues. So now I need to trailer it back to northern Iowa , so the plan is to strap the rear axle to the trailer, but what’s the best way to strap the front end down? Front tires? Frame? And help would be appreciated.

This works great and will give you a much improved ride in the tow vehicle.
They also make a straps that goes over the top of the tires. Some like them better. You will know it's correct if you can still bounce the truck on the suspension when it is tied down.

yep, tie down axles, tires, anything connected to wheel ends, etc.

anything but the frame and chassis where suspension energy is working against a solid tie down..

I have a set of various length ss chain leaders and shackles to grab/wrap just about anything..

good luck!

I tied the frame down once, years ago, that was a wild ride, couldn't figure out what was wrong,I was 16 and new everything, lol,Old guy in his 30s came over and helped me change it over to axle and control arms, worked a lot better, also when I tow, I add a safety strap to the crossmember or sway bar just for safety,I have one loaded on the trailer right now for a 1000 mile trip

thanks guys! I got Valcan straps for tie downs and axle straps , but didn't buy the tire straps because I don't know if the front tires holed air. Life is great when we have little problems like these!

"Old guy in his 30s"

I'll that that bet and double it.

The other options is "dying young and leaving a beautiful corpse."
And it's too late for that.
I'm Okay with "30 is old" attitude. It will change, if he is lucky.

Welcome to the board from another Iowa boy. I'm a little over 30 but I don't feel much older than that....

I agree with tying down the rear axle and lower control arms. If you use a winch to load it leave that hooked up too.
