Starting on the Body

Well, I'm now starting to take this "Rig" apart, and start the body work and paint. At least I don't have any rust to deal with that I can see. Just sand, sand, sand....Hope to have this in paint by spring. Still haven't decided on what color yet.........

Re: Starting on the Body

70GMCer, Where on earth, ah, I mean Maryland did you find a rust free truck like that? Nice GMC! Good luck with the body work. I have been considering dual exhaust exiting before the wheel like yours, do you plan to keep it that way...any problems with smoke / heat on the tires?

Re: Starting on the Body

That's the way i run my exhaust, sometimes it seems to bother people who pull up alongside of me, maybe I'll add flame throwers

Whew! That looks like a great project, but I'm relieved you aren't painting it the same color. That has to be about the worst color combination I have ever seen.

Re: Starting on the Body

You should see the color in person....awful.... Anyway, I got this off a guy in central Pa. He said this was always a farm truck. The rockers are all solid as is the floors and mounts. Only rust I have seen is the right inner finder under the battery, and on the bed floor is a 1" rust hole near the tailgate. This would be a good candidate for a frame off, but I just don't want to tie this project up any longer than I have too. I haven't decided if I'm going to change the exhaust yet or not. I haven't had any problems with heat coming out at that point and sounds great with the Hedmen headers and Hedmen mufflers.

I'll keep the pics coming as I go along.

Hey Jim, you're always welcome to come up......if anything, just to hang out and tell lies..(BSing) hehe

Re: Starting on the Body

Good job man, progress pictures are always nice, thanks. I need a reliable camera so I can do the same. My project is actually regressing with the fog and humidity here lately, I can watch rust form on my stuff.

Re: Starting on the Body

That truck would be a great frame-up. I agree. Nice dog, too.

Re: Starting on the Body

I just don't want to tie the truck up that long for a frame off. Again, I'm hoping to get this in paint by spring. That's assuming that my Golden Retriever will stay out of the way.....hehe.....he likes to help relocating tools and such....

Re: Starting on the Body

Steve, I'll see if I can get up there this weekend to give you a hand. I'm supposed to be helping my buddy put a tranny in a Camry this weekend and I'm waiting for him to call me for the time.
