neutral safety switch?
Hello guys! Wanted to ask if any of u guys have had trouble with a switch that's at the bottom of the steering column, it looks just like a neutral safety switch but my truck is a stick? I have been having issues that resemble a weak battery when I start at times, battery is good and all that jazz. This is a intermittent problem and I was told to replace that switch but wasn't sure wat it was called?

take off battery cables clean bright and shiny all four endss amd where they mount reinstall with a bit of dielectric grease// see if that helps

Some people may say because it is a standard transmission it isn't a Neutral-Safety switch. My truck is a standard transmission and it did have a neutral-safety switch on the base of the steering column. Remember, you truck probably had 3-on-the-tree.
I've replaced mine before. It's not hard to replace. I've got an aftermarket steering column now so it doesn't have a neutral-safety switch. Keith |

The reason cdowns mentioned the cable is because your post mentions hard to start. The two are unrelated.
If you suspect the switch, you may be able to bypass it by disconnecting and jumpering the contacts. Re. hard to start sometimes: Don't overlook the possibility of a bad starter or cables as cdowns mentioned. Cables can also corrode internally at the connector and you can't see it unless you peel back the casing. Also the starter rotor bushings may be worn or have a flat spot causing the hard to start problem. |

Posted via Mobile Devicethis comes from a 3Ott colon and the ones from an automatic have four ends. And I don't think they are called neutral safety switch I think they are for back up lights IMO

Thanks guys, I understand wat u guys mean about basics. Long story short I just put new cables and a battery thinking it was a bad cable. Also new ignition, was just told it could be the switch on the column, but I see now that has nothing to do with starting, only for my lights. It doesn't do it as much but still does it. Well back to the drawing board, thanks guys!! I appreciate all ur input :-)
