Installing newer style, 4 spoke steering wheel - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I've seen enough pictures of newer style 4 spoke steering wheels on our trucks, time to put one (or two) on. Both of my steering wheels are cracked and look like crap.

Anything special to the swap? Do you need an install kit? Suggestions for what years/trucks (S10 or full size) to take it out of?

i got mine off 85 cavilar bolted right on

I got one of a 93 full size blazer. I just removed the old one and installed the 4 spoke, you will have to be a little inovative when it comes to the horn button wire though.

I've done it, and I have a GMC one I'm gonna sell. Get the turn siginal cam that goes with that wheel.

1st. take your old cam and cut the bearing cone off the bottom. Your gonna need it.

2nd. Put the cone back on the shaft, and place the new turn signal cam on top of it. The newer style cams don't have that upper bearing cone.

3rd. There are little copper tabs that hold the copper ring on the bottom side for the horn to work. Those tabs as soon as you install the wheel, will make contact with the metal part of the wheel, and set the horn off. So, some duct tape covering those tabs will solve that problem.

4th. There is a lip on the back side of those wheels. And I found that it will rub on the body of your steering coulom, making the wheel a little harder to turn. I used a razor knife and trimmed it off.

5th. Install wheel, and hook up the horn button. Sit back and enjoy the look of the 4 spoke GM wheel.
