opinions on saving an M1000 military K30

Okay....I have an opportunity to "save" an 85 M1000 from continued duty as a farm truck backup. It's got a little bit of typical body rust....lower fenders, cab corners, box sides a little, etc. It's been seeing farm duty for the last 6 year's. The current owner swapped out the 6.2 diesel for a good running 454, it still has all of its original drivetrain with 4.56 locking Dana 60 and 70 diffs, still retains its 24V starting system, etc. and the plain interior is beyond clapped out. The underneath is super solid still though....the guy wants $2500 for it and it runs strong and quick with no mechanical issues.....just rough around the edges. What are everones experiences with an M1000 truck? My wife will kill me if I bring it home but I've always wanted one.....what do you guys think?

i'm personally not a fan of the military trucks, i only like them a little because they are 1 ton single wheels, and normally have little rust. the whole wiring system is stupid being 24V, and you are lucky with this one not having a 6.2. maybe more toward the 2000 mark beciase of the rust and interior? not that they were silverados to begin with..

2500 seems a little steep, but it might be your location.

If its got the original drive train it should have a locking 14FF rear and a Dana 60 front. Dually conversions had the Dana 70s, Is this a dually? Hard also to believe that he kept the 24v system with a 454 but you never know.

Re: opinions on saving an M1000 military K30

Yeah....I'll need to look at it a little closer-it was sitting off the highway so I got out and did a quick inspection and then called the farmer about it. I recently got a decent 78 GMC High Sierra that I pulled a pretty decent tan interior out of with factory buckets, console, etc. so I had trouble finding a suitable builder for this interior until I found this truck. I couldn't stand to see that interior sitting in a salvage yard so I had to rescue it.....not a fan of tan interior but I am thinking about keeping the camo scheme and going with a nice tan interior if I decide to pull the trigger and get it....idk....still thinking.
