Wanted: 73-79 1/2 ton Chevy pickup

I'm 15 and am looking for a 73-87 Chevy pickup, preferably 73-79 because of the round headlights. I am definitely not asking for something I can get out and drive the day I get it, I really want a project that I can get some driving and mechanical experience with.

Does anyone have one for sale, probably under $600 or so? At least under a grand because I don't have much cash and am looking for a good project for my Dad and I to work on so I can drive it when I turn 16.

I would prefer the truck to have a 350 and auto tranny if at all possible and the body would have to be salvageable. I already know where I can get one in Minnesota but it is pretty far away from me and the truck is VERY rusty and also has a 4spd manual which I don't like(but could live with if it weren't so rusty). At least under a grand because I don't have much cash and am looking for a good project for my Dad and I to work on so I can drive it when I turn 16.

Can anyone help me out? Like i said, I'm looking for a PROJECT. Email me at benscool1@hotmail.com

I talked to him once, he said he was gonna go look at it and get some specifics on it for me, said only thing wrong was that some wires on the back of the motor melted or something? Any idea on how much it would cost to fix?

My dad said that the early diesels were unreliable, any word on that?

i really dont know much about it. it was a customers truck. he brought it to me with a blown engine, and a "rebuilt" engine, and had me install the "new" one after removing the old. i know it is a 4-bolt main, 350 from a 79 chevy van. standard bore, standard bearings. new bearings, new rings, oil pump, cam/lifters etc. cylnders were honed by owner. new plugs/wires/cap/rotor etc. peice of cr@p carbuerator, will not idle smoothely, newer dual exhaust. i believe it is a 12 bolt posi rear. (not positive) battery will not hold a charge. no choke on carb. it runs and drives. it has a bad voltage regulator. i have another alternator that goes with it. also have another hood to go with it. now that i think of it it is a 1980 GMC. not an 84 sorry for that.4wd works good. part time 4wd. trans shifts ok. a little slow into reverse when it is cold. it is a short box with a frame extension. all doors on utility box open/close. ladder rack included. previous owner gave truck to me to pay bill. he lost his job and couldnt afford to pay his bill. so i got this truck.
let me know if you are interested, btw the price is negotiable. i just need this thing gone.
thanks
matt

I am interested, can u send me an email? Would a normal bed fit on it, short or long, or would you have to mess with the frame? So what all exactly is needed? From what you said I understand a new carbureator and battery is needed, but what else?
