They referred to the 402 as a 400 on the sticker in the glove box and on the badges on the fenders. A badge that says "8 400" means 402, not 400 small block. The 400 small block didn't come out for a few years after 1972.

the 400 Chevy Small Block was first offered in 1970, but wasn't offered in pickup trucks 'till 1973. Correct me if I am wrong.
I recall seeing the 400 fender emblems on early 70's GM pickups but not the 402 which is not to say that they didn't exist. My general knowledge of these trucks is limited, but I can tell you a whole lot about a certain 1972 GMC C1500 Custom that I've massaged for the last 5 years.

Thanks for the info. I had someone tell me that it should say 400 not 402. It really does look factory to me though. Joe

Hey, there are no 402 badges that I know of,402 BBC's were called 400 ci invaders in GMC trucks, Look for a stamped code on the block and trace it through a hollander's manual for correct year and appl., also check your VIN# sometimes they say what came in them although a lot of times it just says V-8. also check in your glove box door. The Badges you have sound correct.
