Posi Rearend question
Can you tell if a rearend is a posi by any numbers on the outside, or do you have to open it up and look? I have a 68 1/2 ton that doesn't run and I was wonder if the rearend was a posi before I get rid of it.

Jack the rear of the truck up spin one of the wheels ( in neutral) if the opposite wheel spins the same direction its a posi. if it spins the other direction its a "open" diff

but it's possible for a non-posi to stick and spin the same way if there are issues with it so it really would make sense to open it up and then you could check out how it looked inside as well for wear/improper install, etc...
