Dropped on 16" wheels?

See a lot of guys with drops running 15" ralleys, others running big wheels like 20s.

Wondering what most of you that do about a 4/6 drop do for tires on a 16" rim. Thats about the drop I am looking to do, and trying to figure out what size tires I need to go with.

I am actually working on a dually, but most of the dually guys seem to leave the big 235/75's on there, which look like marsh mellows stuffed in the wheel well or they go 19.5s. I was thinking like 235-50's or 60's but concerned they might be too small on the OD and get lost in the wheel well.

Thanks!

Re: Dropped on 16" wheels?

Thanks. I know of a bunch of those sites. I was planning on using something similar to that depending what kind of responses i got. Basically i dont know what od of tire is a good match for this body style when dropped. A few times i picked way too small, and it looked like the vehicle had go kart tires because of the wheel well size. This is my first GM project in 20 years and my first ever gm truck! So be easy on me here, I'm in uncharted territory lol

Re: Dropped on 16" wheels?

I am running 235/70/15 on front with no rub issues at all. I had a set of 235/75/15 which came with the truck when I got it and they rubbed at the top of the fender well twice, that should help you on the tall measurement for the front. The rear is much easier to fit. I have a set of 275/60/15 and still have plenty of room. I think if you search this site you will find a lot of tire sizes used on drops and you could figure out which 16" will fit based on the size chart and what they will look like.

Re: Dropped on 16" wheels?

6-8 drop with 245-45-16s gforce up front and 295-55-16s radial t/a rear.
Don't know backspace but they rub the front rim lip on the inside of the control arm. So get a good backspace if you do.

The don't rub at top at all. I bottom control arms or headers first

Another thing.....don't do 16s or 15s or 17s...bfgoodrich raped us all on good tires for those sizes unless you like skinny short tires front and back

Re: Dropped on 16" wheels?

or dont use bf tires..

that being said. 16" wheels have become the bastard size for tires all together, so i'd step up to a 17 just for tire availability.. read cheaper tires.

Re: Dropped on 16" wheels?

I don't like buying foreign wheels Is all that being said I know bf Goodrich is now owned by the French. There will be no more radial t/a tires

16s are still hard to get tires for unless your running drag radials. I myself don't like big wheels which is why I chose 18"coys to be my replacement someday. That and I like 18s cause they seem to me at least the perfect size wheel to fill up the wheel well

Re: Dropped on 16" wheels?

Thanks for the replies! Sweet looking truck insidious!
I see how the "smaller" tire sizes are leaving the market place in favor huge rim size stuff. As a VW fan I saw this start a while ago with the disappearance of decent 13's, 14's and 15's. It sucks because a ultra low profile 16 is still so big it looks stupid in the wheel well of a Rabbit. 22's will never happen lol.

Im kind of stuck with somewhat skinny. As i mentioned, working on a dually and i think my wheels are like 6" wide so a 245 is probably the max, maybe a 255? If i do anything bigger than a 60 on those widths they will probably be too huge on od. You have the 245 45 on the front, so maybe a 245 50 all the way around for all 6 is the way to go..maybe 255 60 in thr back?

Re: Dropped on 16" wheels?

Thanks. It's not a dually but it kinda gives an idea.
I would do the 255 in the back and the skinny up front purely for aesthetics. I have the g force t/a up front and I like them a lot.

All kinda depends on how low you go I guess
