Console color change to green, need color code or name.

I will be changing my nearly perfect console from black to green. Does any one know what color or code I need? My interior is 1972 olive green. The column appears to be a darkish olive metallic color. Also, any tips or advise on doing this would be much appreciated.

Re: Console color change to green, need color code or name.

if you want the best possible results disassemble it and strip all pieces with lacquer thinner. repaint it with lacquer paint. i do not know the paint code for dark green, but you can take an interior piece to the parts store to see if you can match it to a dupli-color brand spray can. it is a lacquer paint and works great. otherwise if you get a color code you can order up a can of sem brand online somewhere.

Better?? Really I'm not sure if the console matches the column or the door trim panels.

Re: Console color change to green, need color code or name.

I have the original door panels, they are way lighter than the column, more of a medium olive while the column is dark, with the seat covers being closer to the column than the other parts. In reality, all the interior parts have a slightly difference tint/color. Seat belt webbing, door panels, seat covers, column, sun visors, dash pad, floor mat, retractor sleeves, headliner, nothing really "matches".

Re: Console color change to green, need color code or name.

My thoughts are the console color matched the seat vinyl/ door trim. But I have few pictures and none good of dk green buckets. Might do a search through the parts boars for any archive pictures from old sales.

You should be after code 506 dark olive if you are going to try and match the steering column. Attached links are a few that I have done in this color. If you plan on using a spray gun then any paint store can help you and if not I will look to what site that I bought some rattle can from a few years back. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...hlight=console

Yup, that's it, and from the pictures it's very close to my seat covers. Thank you. 504 dark olive, whos code is that and what sheen is it? I have no spray equipment so I'll have to rattle can it. Would appriciate your finding me the site you bought yours from. Thanks again, Lee

Thanks, that is what I thought. To explain a little. The 506 is GM's exterior color code number that crosses to the Ditzer 2207 as shown here with the (3) notation for the door trim panel color.

Re: Console color change to green, need color code or name.

506 dark olive metallic should be your color. Here are a few pics of the chip sheet and a tissue dispenser that I restored for a board member along with the company that I got the rattle can paint from I think I still have one full can left and it is kind of expensive but two cans should do the trick on a console. https://www.paintscratch.com/cgi-bin/place_order2.cgi The color is off a good bit on the web site but this is what you are after is the 506 dark olive metallic ss (single stage). It is called Dark olive poly on the chip sheet but it is the same thing, 506 dark olive is all the same.

Re: Console color change to green, need color code or name.

Great info. Exterior of my truck is 504 medium olive poly as are my door panels, the dash pad and floor mat is also close to this. The column is 506 and the seat covers are real close to that. I'm thinking the console needs to be closer to the seats than he door panels. I'm sure some where in the 40 or so years there has been some miss matching.

Those look nice, any chance you'll part with them? I think they would look better in my truck than the medium olive.

PT, in some pictures it appears the sheen is glossy and some it looks like semi gloss (low sheen), what is the correct sheen? Lee

Hey PT, can you get the green without the metallic in it? The original stuff did not have the metallis in the door panels or console I think. I may be wrong on that.

506 is an exterior code. Most paint supply stores can take a sample and match your color.

Lee matching these old interior and exterior codes can be hard and if you have a spray gun and are going to mix your paint then there are some things you can have the paint supply store do to knock down some of the gloss but if you are going to try and use rattle can maybe try a satin clear.
