Arrow April 2015 ToTM

Well, you have all been waiting for this contest. This month we will compile and honor those that set the basis for our truck’n world. The theme of this month’s TOTM is

Do you really DRIVE that?

As you can probably guess, the theme for this month will be our less than perfect specimens; our beaters, our beasts, our rust-buckets, our TRUCKS. Now here are the rules or criteria for the vehicles

To be an eligible beater:
  • Open to all years and models of Trucks, Blazers, Suburbans, Tahoes, Yukons, and Jimmys.
  • The nominee must be a board member and the current owner of the truck.
  • It must be road worthy and currently legal (until the cops catch you) to be on the road.
  • It must have an unmatching paint scheme (no all primers)
  • It must have at least three other distinctly viewable issues. This includes things like:
    o Missing panels
o Dents and Holes (large and small)
o Dominate rust formations (not patina)
o Anything that might make someone afraid to go near it for fear of catching some sort of disease
  • If a truck was selected as a 2014 or 2015 TOTM winner then you are ineligible. If the truck was nominated but not selected as a TOTM winner then it may be nominated and compete in this month's category.

To Nominate:

You or someone else may nominate the vehicle. The nominee must be a board member and the current owner of the truck. Once you decide on who you wish to nominate, just add your nomination to this thread. We will need two pictures minimum (at least one full view of the vehicle) with/for the nomination as well as the owner’s board name, and the Make/Model/Year of vehicle.

Nominees will run through March 24. The first 15 nominees that meet the criteria will participate in the contest. I will PM the nominees to get any additional data or pictures if they have not already been provided. If the owner has a preferred picture they want used in the contest, please let me know in a PM. You can PM me for an e-mail address in case anyone has problems resizing the pictures for the board. A Poll Thread will be set up by March 25 in this board area and an announcement will be posted on the Discussion Boards to notify all that voting has begun. The Poll will run thru the morning of April 1 and the official announcement of the winner will be on the evening of April 1. The announcement of the TOTM winner will be posted through the General Discussion Board area.

Re: April 2015 ToTM

Haha, finally eligible... I'll throw my poor long term project in the ring. 72 Cheyenne Super that looked a lot better than it was when it followed me home in 2008. 4 years in outdoor storage while I'll traveled and the bondo started cracking and showing what lurked underneath. Replaced the bed and have started what will be a very slow 2 kid having budget build

As it sits, ugly but cranks up first try every time!

Swapping the bed, corners and rockers are next:

The saving grace keeping this thing from being parted, great running 350 crate engine and TH350 trans. If I could swing the gas I'd drive it anywhere:

Re: April 2015 ToTM

Here's my truck "Cecil" he's crusty and rusty on the "Outside" with scratches, rust, dents, and 125 year old barn wood for a bed. But underneath and inside he is lean and mean: S10 chasis, 5.7 TPI motor, 18x8s up front and mini tubbed 20x10s in the back, power windows, power locks and AC!

Re: April 2015 ToTM

I’ll go ahead and throw mine into the mix. Might as well, it’s probably the most appropriate category for mine to fall into right now.

And for proof that I do indeed drive it….

Followed by a quick glamor shot at the gas station after the engine was done, and before the bed was put back on.

Re: April 2015 ToTM

Shoot, I'll throw my hat in the ring!

NOTE: I just noticed that the qualifications said "unmatching paint scheme" which mine doesn't really. The only thing that could come close is the rockers and fender wells painted with what looks like POR black, and one section of the drivers side rear quarter looks silver in a certain light. If this disqualifies me, ahh well, c'est la vie, but I will leave my hat (and truck) here just in case I squeak in!

1st pic is the full view. You can see the bent grille, the driver's side bumper signal is missing, luckily the grille signals work. Both front and rear bumpers are "loose" in so much as if you push down on one side, the other side will rise. It is full of rust, way more than I had hoped for when I bought it, unfortunately. I think you can make out some rust patches on the drivers side rocker, the front part of the rear quarter, and the top rear part of the wheel opening part of the fender in this pic.

2nd pic is the drivers side rocker and front part of the rear quarter. Of note, when the drivers side door is open, the rear quarter can be moved by hand. The passengers side is solid and doesn't move when the door is open.

3rd pic is one of the rearward cross members at the frame mounting point. The rust is layering the metal at that point.

4th pic is the front drivers side lower shock mount. See how the nut isn't tightened all the way? The drivers side rear shock is worse! Worst part about that one, I'm not sure if, even if I get new shocks, if I can tighten the bolt enough without it pulling through the mount. I have a video of how loose it is, if it's possible to post videos!

5th pic is the passenger side rocker box.

Another thing to note, the rear drive shaft started wobbling a few months ago, so I pulled it, and when I went to press the u-joints out, the one on the front, where the slip joint is, that connects to the transfer case, the fitting was out of round so I couldn't press it out. So it's sat for several weeks, and when I get a wild hair up my butt, I drive it in "front wheel drive mode" without the rear shaft installed.
