I tried a burn out holding the brakes! (Auto trans.) Nothing, Just bogged the engine down. Here I was thinking the 350 would turn the tires with no problems? Re-man engine with only 18,000 miles. The P.O. said he change rear end gears and I have no idea what they are. Oh well maybe another time.

Some ppl cheat and back off the drum brake shoes a tad.

shouldnt have a problem, just back those back breaks off or tighten the fronts, i have a 350 also and it will defo spin the tires, provided you arent running like super swampers or the like...

yeah i agree with what the others have said. back the rears off a little. And let the fun begin...... when my 72 was altogether..... i use to love to get it sideways....and just throttle it out till it grabbed in 2nd....good luck. EDIT........what rear gears are you running...........im running a 4.56 posi , and unless the tires are really wet or realy cold i have to power brake it... but at 50 mph i can stab the throttle hard and get em to spin for a sec......

i sure wouldn't think you'd have to hold the brakes to burn the tires in a picup unless it's got a posi and a whole lot of tire

wow, nice video! Going to do some extra work this weekend helping a friend at his cabin. The payoff is a new set of tires for the truck, yea!! So I'll be ready to smoke them tires soon! There over 3/4 worn anyway. Now what about the long beds with the double drive line? I just had mine completely rebuilt and all new and balanced. Should be good to go. Now what about wheel hop?
Not sure I have in the rear end, it's a 12 bolt though.

Not much smoke cuz tires are so old and had to get out of it, but kinda a burnout!

you should have the front breaks to where they start catching before the rear breaks even touch the drums, so when you break you are breaking with the front breaks more than the back, if that isnt proportioned right you are going to lock up your back breaks when you are stopping. so just take the back drums off and turn the adjusting sleeve thingy a couple clicks in then try it again

I prefer safer brakes to a way to ruin my rear tires and drivetrain.Oh,I like to spin`em,but from power and shifting and that`s about it.Single track is for motorcycles.

I've never had to hold the brakes on mine to spin 'em. I've got an older 350 (probably barely pushing 200 hp) and a 3.73 rear end and I can light em up just by putting the pedal to the floor.

You must have a really high rear end?

Doing it against the brakes is harder to do, just about any properly running stock truck can spin outta the hole.

The brake torque/power brake/brake stand/burrn out... it comes from drag raceing.
Originally, they did it just for show.
Then, someone discovered the added heat helps with traction.
On street tires at the track, a full burn out only kills your tires. just a quick 10 foot spinning of the tires is all that's needed, and that's just to kick the garbage out of the treat.

On the street, burn outs are for showing off. (and a good way to get a ticket) Hold the brake, stab the gas, let 'em rip. A stick is a little tougher, but still pretty simple.

I haven't tried the "power-braking" trick sine I was in High School. I think having to pay for parts and tires (and electricity, mortgages, etc.) put a damper on that.

She lays a nice set of parallel stripes down when the folks at the dump tick you off though... (hee hee)

Although it is a little more money, installing a line lock is a great way to do burnouts for show. It's easier on the rear brakes too! Cool videos!!!
