road to ruin

how do i tell the differance between a 250 or a 292. when i comes to the six cylinders?

I could be mistaken but I believe the 250's motor mounts are straight across and the fuel pump is in front of the pass. mount. The 292 has staggered mounts and the pump is behind the pass mount. This is all based on my not too good memory. I do know the 250 info is correct, 'cuz I have two of them, but I'm not sure I've ever actually seen a 292.

I think Krue is right, another way to tell is the side inspection covers, on the 292 they are taller than on the 250, but I can't remember what the two measurements are actually. And of course you could get the block number off the motor and find out from there.
