A/C Pressure build up
I have a 86 chevy that just is possessed and does not want A/C. If i turn on the truck and let it idle with the A/C on, pressure builds up and the compressor begins to spit out the excess pressure through the safety valve. I am wondering if it is a wiring issue or just the evaporator needs a fan. Never have had an issue of this kind. Pretty stumped.

Is it cooling? Could be the metering orifice stopped up.

Yeah.. does the vent temp get cold?? Possible that your cycling switch is bad, and it won't cycle off the compressor, so it's using a secondary safety measure by relieving pressure elsewhere...

Well the problem is that i have gotten it work for a while. The problem like i said is that if I idle the pressure builds up and all heck breaks loose. I will change the cycling switch and see what happens. The other day i put in a compressor and with a single can of freon the a/c hose blew up. Alot of pressure build up. I did change the evaporator and condensor. Compressor seems fine.

Did you pull a good vacuum on the system before you charged it? The orifice still could be causing a problem if it's full of gunk nothing can get through, just like a stopped-up drain. It's easy and it's cheap insurance.

Your system has some type of restriction. needs to be flushed with proper a/c chemicals , blown out , new orifice tube , evacuated , new accumulator , proper charge of oil and freon.
Installing new compressors on clogged systems is a risk , can be damaged by circulating trash in the system. Desert Last edited by Desert1957; 05-26-2011 at 09:45 AM. |
