5th wheel plate...67 c10

Hi I am flying out to washington state to pick up my new baby in 2 weeks, it is a 1967 c10 long bed 250 I6 three on the tree... I will be driving her the 2200 miles back home and starting a frame off restoration. I am currently ordering parts now so that they will be here when I get back so I can start laying things out, my question is though, does any one know of someone who makes a 5th wheel plate for this truck I am looking for one that I can flip the ball and just have a hole in the wood floor and not something I have to bolt on top. I havent been able to find one, I would rather purchase one than fab one but if I have to i will. Thanks in advance.

Anyone who was wondering B&W makes a center plate that can then be fabricated to fit any bed height. Once you purchase the center plate the rest is very simple and can be built by anyone with a cutting tool welder and basic knowledge of 5th wheel setups/ fabrication.

That would be a goose setup, right? I think farm suppliers could point you in the right direction, they use them for horse and hay trailers. What city did you find this truck? And of course lets see your purchase!

Yes, that is the setup for "goose neck" trailers. Farm stores only look up for stock applications. I ended up getting ahold of the tech/engineering dept at B&W and found out that they make just the center section that has the flip a ball controls and the rest I can fabricate fairly easily.

Here are some photos of her... I picked her up in enumclaw, WA, she made the 2400 mile trip back flawlessly, except when the float in the carb got stuck once easy 5 min fix and the brakes got too hot coming down a 10% grade on the mountain side lol i had to wait about 30 min for them to cool before going on... otherwise it didnt burn a drop of oil and worked flawlessly.

Ok, maybe just me, but why would you do a frame off on that truck it looks great as is and if it ran that dependably for that distance. Guess, I tend to go by the if it ain't broke don't fix it mentality!

I am doing a frame off because I want it to look better than it did when it rolled off the assembly line.... as well as much fun as it was to drive with manual brakes and steering, power brakes and power steering are so much more convenient in a summer daily driver. I also cant stand the color! It will be painted with PPG Gloss black exterior, and Bright Red interior. The red/brown metallic paint and fawn interior just isnt my style.

Why do you want a 5th wheel? You can overload it enough with a regular hitch.

I have this all listed out in another thread but on occasion I will use it to pull a trailer that is a goose neck, as well 5thwheels are easier to tow than a standard trailer of the same weight and put less stress on the vehicle, primarily because of where the weight is being distributed at.

Nice truck but be careful with any trailer large enough to be a gooseneck. A coil spring C10 isn't the best choice for towing. You should think about a better suspension while your doing the frame off. Atwood makes a flip up ball plate that you can attach to your own angle iron or other crossmembers. FYI a 5th wheel is the big plate setup (like a semi)- different than a gooseneck ball. Also did you forget to downshift or why did your brakes overheat? (not trying to be smart I have never driven the mountains in an old truck)

Brakes overheated because it is a 3 speed on the tree (saginaw) I was in 2nd gear and couldn't shift to first (no syncro) I had a semi riding my a** there were no pull offs for 8 miles down this switchback and I had a real jerk in an F350 that would slam on his brakes right before the corners and there was no way to pass him. So I engine braked as much as i could and hoped to god that the brakes wouldnt fail as they continued to fade the further down I got.
Mod's to the truck are as planned as I have the parts now it is just the time to put it all together
-Fully Box the frame (with additional crossmemeber support)
-SS under the bed gas tank relocation
-Power steering setup
-Turbocharge the I6 250
SPA turbo manifold
Garrett TO4E 57trim compressor, .81 a/r exhaust
Clifford intake with FI ports (havent decided to run a 500 cfm blow thru or megasquirt it)
Comp Cam
Hi-flow lump kit
-Full Air Ride with FBSS contols and level ride rear bags rated at 10000# for the rear axle.
-4 wheel Disc Brakes
-New master cylinder and brake booster
-New tranny... trying to figure out what will work maybe NV3500 or NV4500
all depends on cost.

All my friends that I work on classics with name our vehicles. That way we know which ones were talking about... its works when our wives tell us to go spend some time with our other girlfriend so we head out to the garage and go to work.

Are you sure it's a 67? Those front marker lights scream 68, 67's had no markers. Run your VIN here on the decoder.

Other than that it looks to be in great shape, very similar to our 67, except ours is a 4 speed green C20, lol.

Just remember that the DOT doesn't care what you have done to improve the truck's towing ability, they care about the factory rating and you cannot change that.

Yeah it is a '67 I have all the original paperwork to the truck the window sticker with matching vin #'s and everything including photos of the truck from 29 years ago. and all the lights are original to the truck. Heck the photo on '67 booklet looks identical to the truck... same color and everything.
