Rocker Stud Pulled Out

I mentioned it in a coupla posts but I wanna get some opinions before I start. My tic turned into a clack. I pulled the v/c and found that #2 intake stud had pulled out. Checked for a stuck valve and bent push rod but both are good. I wanna reseat it, drill and install a pin. My question is how would you reseat it without boogerin it up? I thought about goin to Lowes and getting two 5/8" nuts, install them like jamb nuts and tap, tap, tap it back home. Anyone see anything wrong with this?

freeze the stud first. then tap it back in.

You dont have much of a choice if that doesnt work, you'll have to pull the head.

I would say heat the boss, but with all that oil and gunk it might catch fire.

Just like you said 2 nuts like jam nuts and tap it in. Kinda strange for one to pull out with stock spring pressure. Make sure you tap it straight down. Yes this is the way the machine shop does it. ;-) Drill and pin is going to be needed I think also. Just make sure it doesnt hit the water under that stud.

Tappin it home worked! Just gotta drill and pin it. I think it may have pulled out because the truck has sat so long and only been started on rare occassions. I think something was a little stiff and caused it to back out. Hell, this is better than the alternative. I'm not interested in spending a lot of money in this motor so if it was worse it woulda went to the junkpile

OK, everything worked out great!! Adjusted the valves and added one full turn, would idle, backed off one-half turn and it would idle but rough and the vac gauge was going crazy. Backed off one-quarter turn and everything was fine. Check mixture and timing, adjusted idle and took it out to go get something to eat. Nice and smooth, no bog, no miss. I've included a pic i mocked up to show everything I did. Two nuts to "press" it back in, rags, magnets and the pin. The pin was not driven home in the picture, I just stuck it in there. Thanks for the reassurance that I was doin the right thing guys!!

Thanks guys. I took it for a longer test drive and it seems a little rough again. I think I'm gonna back the adjustment down to 1/8th turn. After all this work I was never able to get the vacuum back up to 21 in.hg. #4 intake was suspect too. I may have to repeat the process again on this stud.
