Picking up this today

I saw an ad for a 77 c10 shortbed a guy was parting out. He didn't list the front complete front crossmember, but I asked if it was available. He said it was and how much do I offer. I said well, how about 100 bucks and he agreed

So he yanked it out yesterday and I'm picking it up today. Said I can have the steering gearbox as well. Is there anything else I should grab to do the crossmember swap on my 64 c10? Or basically just unbolt what I have and this new one fit right in with a couple holes being drilled/modified?

That should be everything you need. I HIGHLY recommend CaptainFab steering box mount. You'll need that to mount the box correctly to your frame. If you already have your engine out of your truck, you can swap the whole crossmember in but in all honesty, all you need to do is swap the arms and steering. Crossmembers are basically the same and don't need to be swapped.

I currently do not have an engine. Which is easier to do, swap the whole thing at once, or just swap individual parts? No benefit in using the 77 crossmember?

I did the whole crossmember, but that was mostly because I could easily transport it to the car wash for cleaning and subsequent priming/painting. I could also replace all the worn parts pretty easily, easy access. No real advantage to swapping crossmember out other than that, as far as I know.

I would highly recommend grabbing the sway bar and brackets as well. Grab the alignment shims as well. You will almost certainly need some of them to do an initial driveway alignment.

Second Captainfab's steering bracket, makes it so easy, and it's a quality piece and everything lines up perfectly, now tweaking, makes it easy.

If you don't know if the rubber bushings in the A arms have been replaced recently, you should pull it all apart to replace them. If you pull it apart to do that, there is no reason to remove the stock crossmember. If everything is in great shape, it would be easier to swap the whole thing.

If you can get the rag joint if it is in good shape. Also the proportioning valve, hard lines and maybe the master cylinder if it appears to be in decent condition. If nothing else the master and prop valve will give you an idea how it is all plumbed.

I picked it up yesterday. It has all the brake lines, steering box, and the wheels. I just bought a new brake booster/master cylinder a few days ago. I will be buying the bracket for the steering and brake booster from you captainfab, soon. He also threw in the 2 front wheels and a 77 shortbed drives haft which I believe I can use for my project, everything was paid for 120. I couldn't believe the price...
