VIN tag for 54
Can some one tell me if the Vin tag or ID plate is still in the door jamb on a 54 GMC 3100? got a really clean 54 no rust has been media blasted, it is a basket case though but assembly is easy, problem is i can't find the Vin tag. I hate to have to part out somthing this clean.

Yes, it should still be in the door jamb. Why part it out? There are VIN tags available.

The official VIN is an international concept accepted into US law about 1981. What you are looking for is a cab or engine serial number that will match your old title. If you can match either part of the truck to the title the rest of the battle is easier. Sometimes you have to find someone who believes in life before 1980...

Re: VIN tag for 54
Good point, Steve, 3100 is a Chevy designation for the 1/2 ton, not GMC.
I believe in life before 1980! I document it whenever I can... Last edited by Dan Bowles; 04-28-2010 at 01:36 PM. |
