New Guy on the Block - 1971 3/4 4x4
Sooo I just picked up my new beast yesterday for $900. I am sure I will have a lot of questions but here is what I know. It's a 3/4 ton with a rebuilt 1986 350 4 barrel. She screams at 50 mph so I am thinking bigger tires are in order. She runs like a champ so I figured for the price how could I go wrong. He through in extra parts including a brand new Eldelbrock carb, all new glass, and an exhaust, . It was a daily driver so she seems to be very relieable.
Other good things I liked - Brand new exhaust (but it's straight pipes so she pops when downshifting), all new brake lines, all new fuel lines, new battery, new motor mounts, newer clutch (peddle seems hight).........she was loved......Probably spend all her life in this area as I checked the VIN and she was made in Tarrytown NY which is only about 50 minutes from here. Frame was painted with POR13 and appears to be very solid. I am trying deciding if I should drive it as is or let my close friend who owns a hot rod shop do some budget body work on her. The current paint job is roll on Rustoliam. Last edited by njmedic3306; 01-06-2013 at 12:35 PM. |

It is pretty solid. There are a few cancer in the bed but it's solid and the usual spots on the rockers but nothing I can't live with.

Re: New Guy on the Block - 1971 3/4 4x4
Hey,
Good looking 3/4 ton! I think I'd run it as is for a while and see what the truck needs...that's what I'm doing with mine. There are so many possibilities with these trucks and the parts are available...so, do your homework before you start...the guys on here will answer any questions you'll have. Oh, hey, btw, I'm just up in Wantage, NJ...lol Welcome! Chris Posted via Mobile Device |

Hey I am just in Stanhope and this truck was bought by its last owner up in West Milford. A good friend of mine owns a hot rod shop in Hamburg, he will be helping me do any major modifications.

The first thing I would love to find is a bumper preferably with a trailer hitch. The other option is just mount a class IV between the frame rails.

Hey thats too funny I picked up the truck down the road from Budd Lake in Hackettstown. It was sitting at that little shop called 4 cyl motors at the base of the hill. That bottom picture is taken with rt 46 in the background.

Cool Man!
I'm right off rt 23, north of Sussex...maybe 15 minutes from Hamburg...lol. We'll have to get together sometime. Theses old trucks are awesome, and it is good to know that someone nearby is putting one together too! Keep me posted on your progress. Chris Posted via Mobile Device |
